A reminder that The Heretic Prophet will be heavily influenced by Akira and Cowboy Bebop has really helped revive that excitement. Naughty Dog’s update starts with “See you, space cowboy”. The reference was not lost on fans of the iconic ‘90s anime, as the phrase, which is now uttered so often that most people likely don’t realize where it comes from, originated as a line shown on the closing title card in Cowboy Bebop. Could We See The Heretic Prophet At State Of Play? It’s not just the overt tip of the hat to the well-loved anime that has those eager to finally play another Naughty Dog game excited. The update also aligns with confirmation that we’re getting a State of Play this week, on September 3. If PlayStation is in a position where it does have a new Heretic Prophet trailer to show, then closing Thursday’s presentation with it would be huge. Especially when PlayStation really needs to pull some positive updates out of its bag of tricks, with its ditching-discs announcement still hanging over everything it says and does. Speaking of, many eagerly awaiting more news on The Heretic Prophet are fearful of its release date. The longer we go without confirmation of when this game will get here, the more likely it’ll be that it won’t be released until after 2027. If that happens, and if nothing changes, that means the game’s physical release will be a code in a box. Somewhat ironic considering how much of a focus there was on CDs in The Heretic Prophet’s first trailer.
