The victim, identified by local media by her surname Yang, was riding an electric bike through the middle of the road when she crashed with the SUV. Lei said: “Two or three people around immediately shouted, ‘Hurry up, someone is trapped! Come and save her.’” Those first rescuers rushed to the car and tried to lift it, but it was too heavy. Hearing the harrowing cries for help, more people flooded the street and surrounded the vehicle, trying to come up with a plan quickly. Some concentrated on lifting it as others clutched the teenager’s legs in preparation to pull her out. Eventually, the helpers managed to drag her out. When emergency services arrived at the scene, she was examined and taken to the hospital. It was reported that she only suffered abrasions and fractures but had stable vital signs. “Everyone rushed over as if we had trained for it,” said Li, who witnessed the entire rescue. He added: “Although we were all strangers, at that critical moment we became like close relatives and fought to save her.” Police later reminded the public that children under 16 are not permitted to ride electric bicycles on public roads and urged riders never to use mobile phones while riding or enter vehicle blind spots.
