The gathering had been called by Tushar Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson, in support of the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms' demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. The protest was linked to concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and allegations of voter-list manipulation. Tushar Gandhi was also detained while on his way to the proposed protest site and was later released.Police said August Kranti Maidan was not a designated protest venue under a Bombay High Court order and that preventive action was taken to maintain law and order. Additional personnel, including women officers, were deployed at Shivaji Park in Dadar to prevent another demonstration, while security was tightened at other locations across Mumbai. The CJP has also called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over the electoral-roll revision and changes related to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.August Kranti Maidan carries particular historical significance as the place from where the Quit India Movement was launched in 1942.- Ends
