‘I prefer 1-0, much better’ – Grinning Enzo Maresca blasts Man City stars after 5-3 goal rush against Sunderland

MAN CITY manager Enzo Maresca jokingly blasted his side’s openness following the 5-3 goalfest against Sunderland on Sunday. However the new City boss was clearly not too upset, as he grinned throughout. As he used to in his Chelsea days, Enzo Fernandez banged in a free-kick after ten minutes to give his new side the lead and notch a first goal in sky blue. It took just two minutes for Sunderland to respond as hold-up master Brian Brobbey smashed in an equaliser. The score was then 2-2 20 minutes later, Rayan Cherki restored the lead before Brobbey levelled it up again. And that wasn’t even the end of the first half drama, as Antoine Semenyo put City in front for a third time on the stroke of half-time. It was Semenyo who gave his side daylight in the second half, scoring a second just before the hour mark to make it 4-2. But despite Sunderland’s best efforts, a Haaland goal always seems inevitable and he sealed it late on – this meant he has now scored against every single Prem opponent he’s faced. Maresca, who was Pep Guardiola‘s assistant in 2022/23, has begun his return to Manchester with the top job in strong style. He’s led them to a perfect 15 points from the opening five Prem games.
