I gave birth to my baby boy in a KFC car park – we’ve given him a nickname that will stick for life

FabulousParenting A MUM gave birth in a KFC car park — and has nicknamed her son “Colonel” after the fried chicken giant’s founder. Katie Murphy, 33, was having contractions in the car as she was being driven to hospital by her partner Stephen Kirby, 32. Katie said: “As we turned into the car park I could feel the baby’s head coming out. “As soon as Stephen parked he got out and ran round to my side of the car in time to basically catch Cody as he was born. “It all happened so fast. Thankfully, the ambulance was with us about five minutes later and took us to hospital.” Her “healthy and thriving” son weighed in at 7lbs 8oz when he was born on August 29. Although he is named Cody, there is a little twist in honour of KFC founder Colonel Sanders. Katie, a complaints call handler, said: “We were famous among the midwifery staff and they even ordered KFC for dinner. However, Katie was in so much discomfort that he got her in the car that evening for a half-hour drive to hospital, but feared they would not make it. He said: “We were on the A38 and there was nowhere to pull in. Thankfully, I saw the KFC.” A KFC spokesman said: “We’re honoured to have been the place of Cody’s birth and are sending bucket loads of love to the whole family, along with some KFC merch and vouchers.” Comment now
