Glenn Close Is Unrecognizable in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Teaser TrailerThe Hunger Games fans know that hope is the only thing stronger than fear. And the odds were certainly in their favor when Jennifer Lawrence confirmed that she and Josh Hutcherson are reprising their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the upcoming film Sunrise on the Reaping. "Oh man, it was unbelievable," the Oscar-winning actress said of their reunion during the Oct. 28 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. "It was so crazy because it was the same crew. It was the same camera guys, the same [assistant director] who I've worked with a million times too, 'cause I love him." She was more than happy to volunteer as tribute, returning more than a decade after toppling The Capitol's regime in 2015's Mockingjay Part 2 alongside Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson. "It was so emotional," Lawrence recalled. "Josh and I didn't walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other. It was so beautiful."Meanwhile, her reunion with Harrelson seemed to capture Katniss and Haymitch Abernathy's unconventional mentor dynamic perfectly. (Other celebs joining the cast include Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Ralph Finneas and Jesse Plemons.) "Woody obviously came through the window of my hotel room uninvited," she joked to host Alex Cooper, "'cause it wouldn't be the same if he listened to boundaries and used a door." Although Sunrise on the Reaping details Haymitch's experience competing in the 50th Hunger Games, a.k.a. the first Quarter Quell—24 years before Katniss and Peeta entered the arena—the novel's epilogue includes heartfelt moments with his now-much-older former mentees. Murray Close/Getty ImagesAs his devastating story unfolds in Suzanne Collins' novel, fans saw parallels between his and Katniss' loss and grief when a young Haymitch (Joseph Zada) became a District 12 tribute on his 16th birthday. But the trauma wasn't in vain as Katniss—with the help of her mentor—ultimately caught fire for the revolution. "She's not an easy person; she's like me, Peeta always says. But she was smarter than me, or luckier," he said of Katniss in the novel, adding that when it comes to the reaping, "She's the one who kept that sun from rising."
