Sign in to your ScreenRant account Hugh Jackman's $300 million rival to The Mummy has officially been resurrected as a major streaming hit at the perfect time. Jackman's best movies come from a wide array of genres, including his stint as Wolverine in various X-Men films, as well as his music-based projects like The Greatest Showman and Song Sung Blue. But he's no stranger to standalone action movies either, having starred in movies like Prisoners and Chappie over the course of his career. This includes one movie that was successful yet goes unsung within his larger career. That film is Van Helsing, a 2004 action horror movie based on the character from Dracula lore. Jackman stars as the monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing, who is tasked with going to Transylvania in order to hunt down the famed vampire, played by Richard Roxburgh. However, he comes to learn that the immortal being has made a pact with Dr. Frankenstein's monster, portrayed by Shuler Hensley. As Van Helsing's action horror journey continues, he's forced to grapple with a multitude of secrets that make his job all the more complex. Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing Is Back As A Streaming Hit Universal Pictures Now, Van Helsing has become a major streaming hit, following its recent arrival on Prime Video. According to data from October 7, 2026, the Jackman-led horror movie sits at Number 7 in the United States' Top 10, a strong achievement considering the movie's short time on the platform as of writing. Its appearance comes at just the right time, with the Halloween season now here. This means there's a chance the movie's success has only just begun, with new viewers being drawn into its action-focused terrors. The film somewhat echoes Brendan Fraser's The Mummy by focusing on a character's adventure and subsequent conflict with a monster under Universal's umbrella. Of course, Van Helsing is quite the different beast, with a more action-centric focus and a protagonist who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty when it calls for it. However, the movie does have a number of similarities by having an adventure focus and maintaining a PG-13 rating, something that brings it closer to the other franchise. The Mummy Rival Just Returned In A Major Way Van Helsing's streaming success comes at just the right time for the movie. While it's now on Prime Video's Top 10 in the US, it also had a 4K Limited Edition Steelbook release on October 6, equipped with numerous Special Features and bonus content. The movie is also available to watch on both Prime Video and Peacock, making its success on just one platform showcase where more interested viewers are gravitating toward. Either way, it's clear there's still plenty of interest in Jackman's horror action movie, even after 22 years. For now, the movie has only just made it onto Prime Video's Top 10, meaning anything is possible regarding how its future plays out. There's clearly a big enough audience for the movie to earn a spot in the Top 10, something that could continue to rise should keen interest continue. With Van Helsing already managing a strong level of success, it remains to be seen where additional interest may take the film. Release Date May 3, 2004 Runtime 132 Minutes Director Stephen Sommers
