There are a lot of dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but one of the most complex is the Spirit Temple. Requiring you to complete segments both as young and adult Link, this is a lengthy temple that houses some of the most dangerous enemies in the game. If you're struggling at all to beat it or just want to ensure you don't miss any of the five hidden Gold Skulltulas, here is a full walkthrough of the Spirit Temple. Spirit Temple Walkthrough Unlike the other dungeons, the Spirit Temple is a bit unique. Requiring you to complete half of it in the past and the rest in the future, this can be a pretty tricky temple to complete and will give you multiple new items you'll need to use to finish it. To start, we will need to play as a younger Link, so go back to the Temple of Time, transform into a child, and then return to the Spirit Temple via the Requiem of Spirit. When you enter the temple, go up the stairs and turn left. This will trigger a brief cutscene where you're introduced to Nabooru, who is a thief. Agree to help her get the treasure in the temple, and then crawl through the conveniently placed child-sized hole next to her. On the other side, dodge the spike trap and kill the two Fire Keese and Armos in the middle of the room. Remember, the Fire Keese can burn up your Deku Shield, so be careful! Kill the remaining Keese by the hole you can crawl into to unlock the right and left doors. Get The Dungeon Map Go through the door on the left and get ready for a fight. A lone Stalfos will spawn and attack, which normally wouldn't be a problem, but you're a child. This enemy hits like a truck now and takes a ton of punishment to defeat. Play defensively against the Stalfos and only attack after it performs a jump attack. Do not try to trade damage with the Stalfos, as many of its attacks take multiple full hearts if they connect. You're better off waiting out its big moves and punishing it while it's immobile. After defeating the Stalfos, take out your Boomerang and throw it across the gap to hit the crystal. This will drop the bridge, allowing you to reach the chest on the other end, which has a Red Rupee. Crawl through the hole to the right to enter a new room with an enemy called an Anubis. This enemy will not attack unless you do, and it outright mimics all of your moves. Anubis is weak to fire, but immune to any other type of attack. Because of this, we can either use Din's Fire to instantly kill it, or you can lead the enemy over to the inactive fire grate. Shoot the eye switch to turn the flames on, then jump on the platform across from it to make the Anubis fly into the flames and instantly die. That's a lot of work, so honestly you're better off just burning it away with Din's Fire. Go through the door to find two Keese and a Wallmaster waiting for you. Defeat them both, and then go around the small room collecting the silver diamonds. Doing so will cause the middle of the fenced wall to fall, making a bridge. Take out a Deku Stick and light the two unlit torches on the other side to spawn a chest with a Small Key inside. Gold Skulltula 1 — Silver Diamond Room (1F) Your first Gold Skulltula in the Spirit Temple can be acquired right after you drop part of the fenced wall to make a bridge. Kill the Gold Skulltula with a Boomerang and use the same item to safely collect this token. Return to the room with the Armos and Keese. Crawl through the hole between the doors and then unlock the next door with the Small Key. Inside, you'll find two Lizalfos; defeat them as you did in Dodongo's Cavern, then equip a Bombachu. On the floor, there will be a sun switch, which only activates if natural light hits it. On the western wall, there will be a bombable wall that can be reached by sending a Bombachu at it. If you need more of these, shoot the crystal on the left with your Fairy Slingshot to make a chest drop that contains five of them. Blowing up the wall will cause the sunlight to hit the switch on the floor, unlocking the next door. You'll enter the Colossus Room, which has a massive statue along the northern wall. Go down the staircase and use the Deku Stick to light the other unlit torch. This will spawn a chest that contains the Dungeon Map. Gold Skulltula 2 — Colossus Room (2F) At the base of the massive statue on the right, you will find the Gold Skulltula nestled in the northeast corner. Now that you have the map, go up the stairs until you reach a locked door with a stone switch next to it. Climb up the wall next to it and then push the Armos Statue onto the switch to unlock the door. Go through the door and enter the next room with the Beamos and silver diamonds. Destroy the three Beamos with the bombs, and then look for four stone blocks near the middle of the room. One of them will have a sun switch on the top. Drag the sun switch block into the light to cause a chest to spawn that contains a Small Key. Now, go around the room and collect the five silver diamonds. All of them are quite easy to reach; just make sure to use the stone blocks to get the ones in elevated areas. When the diamond gate unlocks, go through the door and then unlock the next door with the Small Key you just acquired. Gold Skulltula 3 — Hallway (3F) In the hallway between the Iron Knuckle Room and the Silver Diamond Room you will find a Gold Skulltula over the door. Use the Boomerang to destroy the Gold Skulltula and claim your token. The next room contains one of the most dangerous enemies in the entire game: The Iron Knuckle. This massive armored enemy wields a huge axe that does a comical amount of damage. If it hits you, expect to lose a large chunk of your health. Because of this, you will need to prioritize dodging its attacks at all times. It has two big moves: the first sees it slam its axe vertically into the ground, and the second is two horizontal slashes in front of it. Watch the axe during the fight, as its position will determine which move it plans on using next. Wait until the Iron Knuckle slams its axe into the ground vertically, as you'll have a small window to run in and slash at it. You can goad the Iron Knuckle to destroy the pillars around the room, each of which will drop several Hearts when they break. Don't get greedy, as the Iron Knuckle can recover fairly quickly. Eventually, parts of its armor will shatter, and the Iron Knuckle will become both faster and way more aggressive. When this happens, keep moving around the room, as this mini-boss will relentlessly chase you. Only attack right after the vertical axe slam, as this will let you get around 2–3 slashes in before you need to jump away. Upon killing the Iron Knuckle, go through the door behind its throne and head down the sandy path. This will lead you back outside, where you'll be right by a chest that contains the Silver Gauntlets. When worn as an adult, you can use the Silver Gauntlets to lift those massive, black stones you've seen throughout Hyrule. A cutscene will trigger involving Nabooru and the dungeon bosses. You can't do anything to stop them, so once you regain control of Link, return to the Temple of Time. This will trigger another cutscene, but when it's over, switch back to an adult and go into the Spirit Temple. Get The Compass Now that we're back as an adult, go into the Spirit Temple, head up the stairs, and push the massive black stone block to the right. This will open up a path to another connection room with a Beamos and a moving spike trap. Destroy the Beamos and then use your Longshot on the green crystal above you to unlock the doors. Go into the left room first. Inside, you will be greeted by a Wolfos. Defeat this enemy, then go over to the Triforce symbol on the floor and play Zelda's Lullaby. This will cause a large chest to spawn across from you. Use the Longshot to reach the chest and open it to get the Compass. Now return to the central connection chamber and go through the right door this time. Get The Mirror Shield You enter a room with more silver diamonds you need to collect. In the middle will be boulders that roll back and forth along a half pipe. One of the diamonds can be grabbed by jumping off the ledge, and the others are in the small nooks on either side of the wall. The last silver diamond is behind one of the time blocks, so play the Song of Time on the ocarina to move it. Gold Skulltula 4 — Rolling Boulder Room (1F) In the Rolling Boulder room, go to the back left corner (northwest) to find the Gold Skulltula in a small nook. Remember, if you played the Song of Time to move the block, you'll need to play that tune again so you can kill this spider! When the door unlocks, go through it and open the chest to get a Small Key. Return to the connection room again, and this time unlock the door and go through. Defeat the Like Like and climb up the wall. In the Sundial Room, activate your Lenses of Truth to see an invisible Floormaster. Defeat this enemy and then approach the sundial in the middle. You'll notice four sun switches on the wall; however, some of these are traps. Since you need to keep the sundial pointed at the switch for a couple of seconds to activate it, we can avoid this by quickly moving to the correct ones. From left to right, you want to activate the first and third sun switches (shown above). This will both unlock the door and spawn a chest with some bombs inside. Hitting the second sun switch will cause a Wallmaster to attack, and the third is a trap chest that freezes Link when you open it. With the door unlocked, move into the next room. We are now back in the Colossus Room we explored earlier as a kid, just on the other side. Go up the stairs to the locked door and approach the lone torch near the edge. Look down at the statue's hand to see a Triforce symbol on the palm. Jump onto the palm and play Zelda's Lullaby to cause a chest to appear on the other hand. Use the Longshot to cross over to the other hand by shooting the grapple point on the statue's bracelet, then open the chest to get a Small Key. Gold Skulltula 5 — Colossus Room After getting the Small Key from the chest on the Colossus Statue's hand, look up to the northwest corner to see a Scarecrow spawn point. Play the Scarecrow Song on your ocarina to summon him, then grapple up to the ledge it's on. You'll find a Gold Skulltula right next to him. Make your way back over to the side you were originally on and use the grapple point to reach the northeastern corner where you'll find a Megaton Hammer switch. Hitting this will unlock a door, which creates a shortcut back to the start of the temple. You will need to push a few Silver Gauntlet blocks throughout a hall to make the shortcut, but it's available if you need to go somewhere else in Hyrule. To continue progressing through the Spirit Temple, go to the locked door on the southeast side of the Colossus Room and open it with the Small Key you just got. Inside will be a Beamos and three Anubis enemies. You can hit the stone switch and walk each Anubis enemy into the fire, but I personally just think it's easier to use a Fire Arrow or Din's Fire to burn them away. When all the enemies are dead, proceed through the newly unlocked door. The next room will have a sun switch to the north that you cannot activate at the moment and a stone switch in a small hole in the floor. Look for the nearby Armos Statue and touch it to awaken it. Do not kill this enemy. Instead, stand across from the hole with the switch in it to goad the enemy towards you. It will fall into the hole, pressing down on the switch, and get stuck there. In the hallway before the next room, make sure to use your Lenses of Truth to see the hidden small chests. Each of them will contain a Red Rupee, so open them if you need money! When you're ready, go through the door to be reunited with your old friend, the Iron Knuckle. This fight will play out exactly like when you fought it as a child. The difference is, if you have the Biggoron Sword you can utterly obliterate this enemy. If not, just attack the enemy between its vertical axe slams and use the pillars it can destroy to spawn hearts if you need to refill on health. When the Iron Knuckle is dead, go through the door, follow the path, and step on the switch. This will spawn a chest with the Mirror Shield inside. Get The Boss Key Now that we have the Mirror Shield, equip it and return to the room where you goaded the Armos Statue to fall on the switch. On the north side of the room, you will see a stream of sunlight. Use the Mirror Shield to redirect this light onto the sun switch over the locked door to open it. Go inside this room and open the chest to get a Small Key. Return to the room where you killed the three Anubis enemies and open the locked door. Inside the next room, you will need to climb up some moving chain link, so just wait until the segments are aligned. Halfway up, two Lizalfos will attack you, so deal with them before progressing to the top of the room. Go through the door and, in the next room, play Zelda's Lullaby while standing on the Triforce symbol on the floor. This will raise the bars over the door in front of you. Go inside, equip the Megaton Hammer, and kill all the Flame Slugs crawling around. Then use this hammer to destroy the fake door enemy in the back left corner. This will reveal an eye switch you can activate by hitting it with your Longshot or Fairy Bow. A portion of the wall will fall down, creating an opening you can use the grapple point on the ceiling to reach. Step on the stone switch to deactivate the flames around the chest and open it to get the Boss Key. Unlock The Boss Room Return to the room where you played Zelda's Lullaby and then open the door on the west side of the room. In the next room, you will encounter White Bubbles, which aren't really any different than all the other ones you've fought, so just use your shield to block their charge and strike when the flames around them vanish. In the next area, jump down to the lower section and hit the gem switch in the alcove to unlock the nearby door. Go through this door to find yourself in a small cavern with a sundial in it. Blow up the bombable wall to the left of the sundial and get ready because two Dinolfos will come charging out. Unlike their younger counterparts, these enemies hit extremely hard and are hyper-evasive. The key to beating them is waiting until they commit to an attack, dodging to the side, and attacking. These enemies do a lot of damage, so it's worth using your shield rather than sheer brute force via the Biggoron Sword. When they're defeated, rotate the active sundial so it shines its light on the one in the room that housed the Dinolfos. Then redirect the light through the bars and jump down the hole to reach the room where the light is. Redirect the light to the sun switch on the wall to cause the platform you're standing on to lower into the Colossus Room. Now redirect the light onto the statue's face to cause it to break, revealing the Boss Room Door behind it. Go through the door to trigger a cutscene where the Twinrova sisters flee and leave you with a third Iron Knuckle to fight. Great. This Iron Knuckle is exactly like the last two; however, it will take far less damage to defeat, and there won't be a phase once you break its armor. Make sure to only attack after the Iron Knuckle is finished swinging its axe, and only stay next to it for a couple of hits before retreating. Once you beat the Iron Knuckle, another cutscene will play, and the door will unlock, allowing you to actually fight the boss. Defeat Twinrova This fight is all about using the Mirror Shield. Both Koume (the fire witch) and Kotake (the ice witch) will fly around the arena and stay high out of your sword-swinging range. Ranged weapons such as the Fairy Bow are also useless, as the duo has shields that protect them from your arsenal. Because of this, we will be using their own power against them. When the fight begins, the sisters will start flying around you in a circle. Look for the sister who has a magic circle in front of them and keep track of that one. Eventually, they will fire out a beam of energy tied to their respective element. As you can guess, our job is to then use the Mirror Shield to redirect that beam at the other sister. So if Koume launches a fire beam, redirect the beam back at Kotake with the Mirror Shield. This will damage the boss, causing them to stop attacking and resume flying around you again. You will need to repeat this process two more times, with the third attempt seeing the sisters change who is channeling their magic beam back and forth. Keep an eye on them both, as you will only want to focus on the sister who stops moving to finally cast her spell. While you're redirecting, the other sister will teleport to the opposite side of her sister, but you will have plenty of time to move the beam over to them. If any of the beams aren't redirected, they will do quite a bit of damage to Link and leave some lingering hazards on the arena floor. After hitting the sisters three times with their own attack, a cutscene will play where the two of them will merge into a single body. This is Twinrova and her portion of the fight is a little different from the previous one. Once you regain control of Link, watch Twinrova and wait for her to lift one of her magic scepters into the air. She will launch either a fireball or iceball at you. Block it with the Mirror Shield to store the energy of that element. Unlike the previous phase, we actually want to only block the same element three times in a row. Blocking fire and then ice, or vice versa, will cause the energy to become nullified and vanish. Be careful, as Twinrova will not always fire out the same elemental attack in succession. Watch her hands, as whichever one she keeps waving over her head is what she will fire. This means there will be times when you need to avoid her attack and deal with the hazard it leaves behind. It can be a bit of a pain, but you really want to avoid the fire one, as it does a tremendous amount of damage, while the ice attack just freezes you. After catching the same element three times with your Mirror Shield, Link will launch it all back at her. This knocks her onto one of the four smaller platforms, so rush over and start hacking away at Twinrova. After taking enough damage, she will retreat to the sky, and the process will start all over again. Twinrova will now start mixing in faints for which element she is going to fire. Pay attention to whichever wand she shakes over her head, as that's the one she will use to attack. She will also occasionally dive bomb you, where she flies across the screen, but it's easily avoided by moving to the side or even jumping to one of the exterior platforms. Repeat this process of collecting the same elemental energy from Twinrova's attacks and launching it back at her two more times to defeat this boss. Killing Twinrova will complete the Spirit Temple, and now you are ready to finally face the Demon King himself, Ganondorf!
