Onimusha: Way Of The Sword - How Long Does It Take To Beat? Published Sep 14, 2026, 6:10 AM EDT Alex is a gamer at heart. He started his journey on the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) and has been playing games since. While he enjoys difficult games like Dark Souls, he also likes to cuddle up with a cozy game, too. Alex loves completing games 100 percent and getting all the achievements so it's only natural that he enjoys flex-... uhhh... SHARING that gaming knowledge with the world. Alex has a Master's degree in English but his love for games has made him into a writer he is today. He's written for websites like Destructoid, TheEscapist, ProGameGuides, and DotEsports before starting his career here at TheGamer. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is an action-focused Samurai game by Capcom where you'll be cutting down Genma, collecting souls, and, naturally, saving the world. The real question here is: how long does one have to play until they can safely say they've completed Way Of The Sword? Onimusha is one of Capcom's beloved IPs from the PlayStation 2 era, so we were curious to see what they will do with this reboot and if it would take us more than a weekend to beat. Well, we finished the game, we had a lot of fun, and here's how long it took us. How long does it take to finish? It takes roughly 30 hours to finish Onimusha: Way Of The Sword. This includes: Going through the main story until the credits rolled Doing some (but not all) side-content Dying a bunch of times to some difficult bosses (especially the last one) We played the game on the Action (Combat Focused) difficulty, and refused to lower it because we really liked what Capcom had done with this reboot (and so we can flex just a little bit, obviously). If we had prepared better for some bosses, and skipped all the cutscenes, we probably could have done everything in around 25 hours. How long does it take to 100 percent? To 100 percent Onimusha: Way of the Sword, you need to: Finish the main game once (on any difficulty) Complete all the side activities Beat the game one more time on the hardest difficulty known as: "Carnage." Finishing the main story with all the side-content should take you around 30 to 35 hours, while another playthrough shouldn't take you more than 20 hours, likely even less (provided you carried all your upgrades to the new game). According to howlongtobeat.com it takes about 45 to 100 percent the game, but in our experience, this is only if you're playing the game optimally while using guides. In reality, it should take you around 50 hours to finish everything in Onimusha: Way Of The Sword. Is the game difficult to complete? This depends on how familiar you are with action games. Onimusha: Way Of The Sword is much easier than Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but definitely harder than Ghost of Tsushima / Ghost of Yotei. In a sense, if you are skilled enough to play souls-likes, Onimusha should be a breeze for you (well, maybe the last boss might give you some trouble). However, if you've never played action games before, there will definitely be a learning-curve until you learn how to parry and Issen like a champ. If you want to make the game less challenging, finish all the side content because they will give you a bunch of upgrade materials which you can use to boost your equipment.
