How Delhi Police's 'women-first' move to detain CJP leaders avoided flight chaos

The Delhi Police deployed its women officers to detain Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka as their flight landed in Delhi ahead of the outfit's Jantar Mantar protest.Abhijeet Dipke and other CJP leaders were detained after their flight landed in Delhi on Saturday New Delhi,Oct 10, 2026 12:50 ISTDramatic scenes played out at the Delhi airport as the Air India flight carrying Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka landed on Saturday ahead of the outfit's Jantar Mantar protest. Shortly after their flight landed at the IGI Airport, cops entered the aircraft and detained the trio. However, what was off script was the Delhi Police's move to send women officers to detain Dipke and team.It is, however, not known whether the strategy was deliberate. Delhi Police might have anticipated that deploying male officers could risk a confrontation. In an aircraft, the aisles are narrow, and there is little room to manoeuvre. Even a minor scuffle could quickly escalate into a larger commotion. To prevent such a scenario, the Delhi Police might have decided to deploy women officers to minimise the risk of such an escalation. Barring a few heated exchanges, Dipke and the other CJP leaders were eventually detained without any major chaos.Visuals emerging from inside the aircraft showed women police personnel surrounding the CJP leaders. Dipke is seen questioning the manner of the detention. He told the cops that they could have waited for them to disembark. "You can see where the nation is heading. They are here to arrest us directly from the flight. This is something not even Indira Gandhi had done. This is dictatorship," Dipke is heard saying."I have come here to be arrested; arrest me," Dipke further tells the cops. All along, the women officers are seen urging Dipke and others to cooperate. Dipke, Das and Ranka were then taken to an undisclosed location. The CJP, which gave the call for Jantar Mantar 2.0 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, slammed the "authoritarian detention" of its leaders.- Ends
