THIS is the moment a mob of masked men dressed as cops kidnapped a man from a car in the middle of a motorway in a Brit holiday hotspot. Shocked drivers captured dramatic footage of traffic stopping abruptly as attackers suddenly boxed in the man’s car on the busy road in Spain. The man asked his partner as the traffic ground to a halt: “What’s happening? It’s the police, isn’t it?” Looking closer at the men blockading the road, suspicion sets in, the man said: “It says ‘Police’ on their jackets… but I’m not so sure.” Then the situation turns violent as the fake officers swarm the victim’s vehicle brandishing weapons, the man said: “They’re carrying guns. As the gang physically overpowers the victim and drags him out of his vehicle, the panicked caller reports the abduction in real time to dispatchers: “It’s a kidnap. “There’s a kidnap occurring right now on the AP-7. They’ve got guns and everything—they’re dressed as police officers, but they are not police.” Police confirmed overnight the man snatched had been found elsewhere and had not suffered any serious injuries. It is understood they are still hunting his abductors. The cops have not said why he was targeted although it is thought to be linked to a drugs feud between rival gangs. Local media report the victim had recently been released from prison. The Catalan police force’s Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) has taken over the case and is working to track down the fleeing suspects. Detectives are treating the attack as an illegal detention rather than a kidnapping for ransom, as no cash was demanded for his release. Investigators strongly suspect the ambush was a violent settling of scores connected to the illegal drug trade.
