A homicide investigation has been launched after the death of a man in Glen Innes on Thursday afternoon.Acting Detective Inspector Craig Bolton said Police were called to Sunnymead Road at around 2.45pm with reports that a person had been critically injured."Police quickly attended and sadly, despite best efforts by emergency services, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene."One person was swiftly taken into custody and is assisting Police with enquiries."St Johns responded with one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one operations manager.A scene guard was established and cordons were put in place.Jessica Hopkins/RNZPolice said there is not believed to be any risk to the wider public."Police recognise the impact an incident of this nature has on the community, and we want to reassure residents that support is being provided to the family of the deceased and those in the wider community."Staff will also be conducting reassurance patrols in the coming days," Bolton says.A nearby liquor store owner says he saw about a dozen police cars in the vicinity of Sunnymeas Road, Fenchurch Street and Taniwha Street.He says it's not great for the community, as just last year, a man who came off a bus outside his shop on Fenchurch Street had been stabbed, and later died.Police said residents can expect to see an increased Police presence in the area while the investigation continues.
