Hollywood stars give Rob Reiner emotional standing ovation as he wins posthumous Emmy

This weekend, the awards ceremony, formerly known as the Creative Arts Emmys, took place in Los Angeles at the Peacock Theater. The star-studded event recognised the best creative talent behind the most popular TV shows of the past year, including The Pitt, Widow’s Bay and Spider-Noir. One of the accolades was for best comedy guest actor, with nominees including Michael J Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, and Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie on Saturday Night Live. The award went to late actor and filmmaker Reiner, who was found dead at his home last December aged 78 alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reinger, 70, from apparent stab wounds. Their son, Nick Reiner, was accused of fatally stabbing his parents. In August this year, he pleaded not guilty for a second time to two counts of murder. Prosecutors alleged that the 32-year-old lay in wait for his parents before the attack. He played business consultant Albert Schnur in The Bear, a character who appeared in three episodes in season four. Gerrard Hall, executive editor of Entertainment Weekly, shared a video from the awards ceremony of the moment everyone stood up in honour of Reiner. Reacting to the actor’s win, X user Lysandder wrote: ‘It was a great category this year. Pleased for the posthumous award for Rob Reiner and his family who got to see him celebrated at the end of such a fantastic career.’ ‘Congrats to Rob 💙 glad his work and dedication is being recognized,’ mjms323 commented. ‘Oh so deserved. Amazon Prime’s Spider-Noir took home five Emmys, days after the Nicolas Cage-led superhero series was cancelled after one season, while Ernest Harden Jr. won best guest actor in a drama for The Pitt. Meanwhile, Dame Julie Andrews won the Emmy for her Bridgerton voiceover work at 90 years old, breaking the record she previously held for her last win at 89.
