Hollywood Is Afraid Of Adapting Mysterious "Lesbian Vampire" Novel, Confirms Star

Even on television, networks have also struck gold with the vampire genre thanks to the popular adaptations of The Vampire Diaries and Interview with the Vampire. Despite this kind of reception, it seems like Hollywood isn’t interested at all in producing a movie about lesbian vampires, according to the Riverdale alum. In a recent interview with Hits Radio, when asked if there’s a book she would love to see adapted on-screen, Reinhart shared that she’s actually trying to develop an adaptation of a novella “about lesbian vampires.” However, she admitted that she’s struggling to find a studio that’s not “too afraid” to make the project. It’s unclear if the Hustlers star is also planning to star in the undisclosed adaptation, but she’s actually not a stranger to the supernatural genre after starring in CW’s Riverdale series and Diablo Cody’s 2026 film Forbidden Fruits. Reinhart: “People are too afraid to make that. So, if you work at a studio and are watching this video, I don’t know why you wouldn’t make that in this day and age. That’s what I’m trying to do.” Since Reinhart didn’t disclose the title of the lesbian vampire novella that she wants to adapt, many are speculating that she might be referring to the classic Gothic novella Carmilla by Irish author Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. The story centers around a young woman being pursued by the titular vampire. The iconic 1872 novel has already been adapted into film multiple times in the past years, including Dracula’s Daughter (1936) and The Vampire Lovers (1970). It was also reimagined as a modern web series starring Natasha Negovanlis and Elise Bauman, which was released on YouTube from 2014 to 2017. Although Reinhart hasn’t played a vampire character before, she has portrayed queer roles before. In the sixth season of Riverdale, her character Betty Cooper’s bisexuality was introduced to the storyline. This came two years after Reinhart confirmed on social media that she’s a “proud bisexual woman.” After Riverdale, she starred in the comedy-drama miniseries Hal & Harper with Mark Ruffalo and Cooper Raiff. Her role in the 2025 series was Harper, a 20-something woman who has a codependent relationship with her girlfriend. Reinhart is currently starring in Prime Video’s newest romantic comedy movie, The Love Hypothesis, with Tom Bateman. It was based on Ali Hazelwood’s 2021 novel of the same name, which originally started as a Star Wars fanfiction about Kylo Ren and Rey.
