Sign in to your ScreenRant account The first Hogwarts Legacy game was an enormous success for Warner Bros. and Avalanche Studios, both commercially, and in terms of the sheer number of hours that everyone played it for. It remains in the top five most-played single-player games on the PlayStation 5, and it's fair to say that there has been a lot of competition for those positions over the years. As such, it's little surprise that a sequel was ordered so quickly, as those in charge of the IP seek to capitalize as much as possible on its seemingly unending popularity. That decision also survived Paramount's recent mega-money takeover of Warner Bros. and it seems development is continuing apace right now. Though we haven't had an official reveal for the game yet, we do know one major element that will be different next time around, and we might just have had our first look at its setting in an entirely different project. Hogwarts Legacy 2 Will Be A Very Different Game Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll likely know that HBO is soon going to be releasing the first season of a brand-new Harry Potter adaptation. That season will cover the events of The Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone in the United States), 25 years on from the release of the original film. That plays into the next Hogwarts Legacy game, because those in charge of the franchise have previously claimed that the sequel will closely tie in to the events of the show. Whether that means a direct adaptation of Chapter 1 or not, it almost certainly means we'll be seeing a lot more of the titular castle. That brings us to earlier this year, when the first trailer for the show gave us a great look at the production's interpretation of the castle. It's now a very safe bet that the castle in the next game will be modeled on that, rather than the very original version we got in the first game. However, you might feel about that personally, it's a huge risk if they do decide to make the next game a close translation of the Harry Potter source material. The thing that many players liked the most about the first was the entirely original story set at an earlier time, but within the universe they are so familiar with. We Might Not Have Too Long To Wait That combination of the original and the familiar was a bit of a masterstroke from those who were designing the game, and straying from that seems like a bizarre decision. With all of that in mind, it will be interesting to see what exactly Hogwarts Legacy 2 looks like and what it's going to be about. It will also be a solid test of the developer's skills for them to produce it in a timely manner, as those at the top of Warner Bros. and beyond have made it increasingly clear that they want it out as close to the show as possible. In any case, there's a lot coming down the pipeline for those who remain in the Harry Potter fandom, so let's just hope they hit all the right notes on arrival.
