It was great. You had to be there. But right before that, we would watch the Primetime Emmy Awards. While fall TV has gone the way of the dodo, we still have the Emmys to validate our biggest TV obsessions.On September 14, the 78th Primetime Emmys will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay on tap to host the ceremony. The festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. ET), with a handful of pre-shows conducting red carpet interviews in the afternoon leading up to the awards. And here’s how you can watch it all.It’s been a big year for TV, with breakout hits like Pluribus, DTF St. Louis, Task, and Widow’s Bay spicing up the competition. Matthew Rhys could clutch his second Emmy with Widow’s Bay (he previously won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2018, for The Americans), while Rhea Seehorn might finally win her first through Pluribus after years of nominations for her work in Better Call Saul.But some titans might keep their streaks going. Jean Smart has taken home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for every year she’s been on HBO’s Hacks. For the show’s final year, Smart could take home gold once more, though Elle Fanning in our springtime fave Margo’s Got Money Troubles might disrupt that possibility.And what about Task? Last week, our own Josh Rosenberg wrote in his predictions that he’d like to see Tom Pelphrey clinch Outstanding Supporting Actor (Drama). Pelphrey is up against some mighty fine dudes from The Pitt, including Gerran Howell, Shawn Hatosy, and Patrick Ball. But a win for Task could go a long way in an awards show that leaned heavily toward The Pitt last year.Needless to say, the competition is fierce for the Emmys this year, and you’re probably keen to watch along and see who takes home a statuette.
