Helldivers 2 Review Bombed Yet Again Over Update 7.2 Devoid Of Liberty

Arrowhead may be brilliant at orchestrating a war campaign for players to partake in like a disembodied dungeon master, but the community is equally capable of waging war on the store page, with today marking the 7th review bomb campaign in just two years. Devoid of Liberty: 7.2.0 launched on October 20, and the reason players have retaliated with an orbital strike of 2,365 negative reviews is because the update replaces GameGuard with Easy Anti-Cheat. It's the scourge of many a community due to the performance tax it demands, frequent crashes it often causes, and the kernel-level access it requires of your PC, but on top of all that, it has broken several of Helldivers 2's best and most popular mods without warning. As reported by FRVR, one of the best Helldivers 2 mods, Custom Galactic War, "is down for the foreseeable future." The team posted a statement to social media confirming that "EAC has effectively put a stop on CGW for the time being." They're exploring other options, like supporting the mod for previous builds of the game or developing an EAC bypass for each update, but as it stands, the mod is no longer compatible with Helldivers 2. Take a quick glance at the negative reviews, and you'll see again and again that the sudden axe to mod support is a huge grievance, and it's hard to blame players when the community has picked up the slack with optimization, quality-of-life features, and bug fixes for years, all of which is now broken. Every Review Bomb Campaign In Helldivers 2 History By our count, this is the 7th review bomb scandal the game has faced since launch (if we've missed any, please let us know), which means that Arrowhead owes us 6 more capes. May 2024 - mandatory PSN sign-in. August/September 2024 - Escalation of Freedom update. May 2025 - Chinese review bombing scandal over an in-game Shanghai event. September/October 2025 - Into the Unjust update. March 2026 - community-led charity event leads to doxxing. April/May 2026 - frustration at the lack of endgame progression, unaddressed bugs (not Terminid), balance changes, and tedious grinding. October 2026 - the Easy Anti-Cheat update. At the time of writing, Helldivers 2 sits at an average of "Mixed" reviews across all languages, with just 55% of the 6,500 reviews in the last 30 days being positive. Considering how many mods have been broken, and how many of those addressed some of the crucial pain points in the community, we're likely to see that score drop even further. Helldivers 2 might be beloved, and one of Sony's only live-service success stories, but it certainly has a knack for jumping between controversies every few months.
