(Photos: X/ANI)Delhi-NCR woke up to a waterlogged Monday after heavy rain swept across the region, turning roads and underpasses into pools of muddy water. Videos from across the capital and neighbouring areas captured the chaos, from stranded cars and crawling traffic to children swimming on a flooded street.Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds disrupted the morning rush and affected flight operations, with 15 flights diverted. Waterlogging and congestion were reported across Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad, while orange alerts were issued for Gurugram and Faridabad. One of the more striking visuals came from Delhi’s Durga Vihar, where children were seen swimming and playing on a waterlogged road. The flooded stretch had turned into what looked like an open-air swimming pool, with the children making the most of the water even as vehicles navigated the road nearby. At Mahipalpur Flyover, the situation was far less playful. A video showed a car stranded amid severe waterlogging, with the road almost entirely submerged after the morning downpour.Another clip from the Zakhira underpass showed commuters wading through ankle- to knee-deep water as they attempted to make their way through the flooded stretch. The rain also brought several parts of Delhi to a standstill. Heavy congestion was reported on MB Road near Sangam Vihar, with traffic moving particularly slowly between Vayusenabad and Sangam Vihar.Commuters said they spent nearly an hour stuck on the stretch, which carries traffic towards Delhi airport, offices and Saket Court. Many pointed out that the same roads frequently become difficult to navigate whenever heavy rain hits the city. The situation was similar in Ghaziabad, where waterlogging near the Industrial Area underpass on NH-9 left motorists struggling to get through. Videos showed vehicles making their way cautiously through the flooded road, while some drivers pulled over and waited for the water level to drop. The India Meteorological Department has predicted further monsoon showers over Delhi-NCR and neighbouring areas, while orange alerts remain in place for Gurugram and Faridabad.- EndsPublished By: Srimoyee ChowdhuryPublished On: Aug 24, 2026 18:08 IST
