The company later contacted her and confirmed that the driver had been barred from its platform, while Tanisha said she had filed an FIR.The horrifying incident took place around 4.45 am, shortly after Tanisha landed in Delhi and booked a cab to Gurugram. The fare displayed on her Uber app was approximately Rs 625 for the ride. However, after the trip, the driver allegedly showed her a screenshot of a Rapido fare quoting Rs 1,479 and demanded that she pay that amount instead.“When I pointed out that this was a Rapido screenshot and not an Uber screenshot, he said, ‘iss route ka itna hi hota hai’ (This is the actual fare of the route),” she wrote in her post. Tanisha said she paid the amount shown on Uber, but the disagreement quickly escalated. The driver allegedly locked the car and refused to let her take her belongings unless she paid the higher fare.“He held my arm and shut the front-seat window where my luggage was, trying to stop me from taking it out,” she claimed, describing how she struggled to retrieve her belongings. The ordeal, however, did not stop at the cab. Tanisha said the driver followed her to her house, forced his way towards the gate and abused her as she tried to get inside. After she managed to enter and lock the door, he began climbing the gate while threatening her.“All of this happened when I'd just landed and was simply trying to get home safely,” she wrote.Tanisha also raised concerns about accessing help through the platform during the incident. “I'm dealing with a terrifying situation involving physical aggression and life threats, and I can't even get through to the platform's safety team,” she said, demanding an urgent response and an investigation.See the post:Uber India replied to the post saying, “We've addressed your concern and sent a response your way. You should be able to view the details via Direct Message.”In a subsequent update, Tanisha reassured people that she was safe and confirmed that Uber had contacted her.The company told her the driver had been barred from the platform and would no longer be allowed to accept rides. She also confirmed that she had filed an FIR against him. However, the update did little to settle the wider concerns among social media users.Several questioned whether ride-hailing platforms were conducting adequate background checks before allowing drivers to operate, while others criticised the reliance on automated chatbots for handling serious consumer complaints.- Ends
