They’re direct and straightforward about almost anything. 10 years ago, an email openly saying ‘severe menstrual pain’ would have been rare,” Jasveer said in his post.The email read: “Hi Sir, I won’t be able to come to the office today due to severe menstrual pain, cramps and discomfort. I’ll remain available on email and phone if anything urgent comes up. Thanks.” The post prompted mixed reactions, with some agreeing that workplace conversations around menstruation have become more open, while others said the shift should not necessarily be attributed to Gen Z.“I don’t think it’s a Gen Z thing but a work culture shift which Europe already follows,” one user commented. The person added that they had “seen such emails” for years, noting that such conversations often take place on workplace platforms such as Teams or Slack. Another user welcomed the employee’s honesty, writing, “Much needed, they are being honest.”The reactions also triggered a debate over whether such openness is a generational trait or simply a reflection of changing workplace culture.While some credited younger employees with making conversations around personal issues more direct, others pointed out that employees have been communicating such concerns openly for years.
