Sign in to your TheGamer account Despite being one of the most anticipated games of the year, and potentially of all time, Grand Theft Auto 6 has still faced plenty of criticism over Rockstar's decision not to release the game on both consoles and PC at the same time. While we've been waiting months for news on when we can expect a native PC edition of GTA 6, a recent announcement confirms the game will still be playable on PC on day one. While the official workaround does avoid one of the biggest concerns preventing GTA 6 from releasing natively on PC, it does come with quite a big catch that not everyone can ignore. Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Be An Xbox Cloud Launch Title As reported by Variety, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced in a shocking statement that "Xbox has managed to land a deal for the exclusive game streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6." While the report specifies "it's not clear how long the agreement will be in place," we do know for sure that PC players will be able to play GTA 6 at launch without owning a console through Xbox's PC Cloud Streaming. The announcement also notably comes barely a month after Xbox removed unlimited Cloud Streaming from Xbox Game Pass in favor of a set number of hours each month, with paid options available for increasing them. Despite Xbox itself claiming only a fraction of players made use of this feature in the first place, the numbers are likely to skyrocket after GTA 6's release, considering it will be the only way to play the game on PC for the foreseeable future. It Isn't Perfect, But We'll Take What We Can Get Although Cloud Streaming certainly has its limitations, both in terms of the pricing model and not being able to take advantage of PC-only features like modding, the announcement still feels like a solid middle-ground for those that don't want to wait until GTA 6's official PC release but also aren't willing to rush out and buy a new console just to play it. Cloud Streaming also means players on mobile devices will be able to stream and play GTA 6 through the cloud. Of course, one of the biggest concerns that comes with Cloud Streaming is the fact that the quality of the experience relies heavily on both Xbox's own servers and how powerful your internet connection is. On top of the performance concerns, we don't even know how much the additional packages will cost until November, meaning you could potentially end up paying more to actively play on PC than it would cost to buy the game outright when it releases, unless you can rush through the story in the limited hours allotted each month.
