GTA 6 Map Size Officially Confirmed By Rockstar

After only two trailers having released over the past several years, the 26 minutes of material are full of details about the story and gameplay that were previously known. That's not the only news, however, with some other key details coming from a different source. Rockstar has also offered hands-off previews of the game to a select number of content creators, and one revealed the answer to a question that everyone has been asking. A new video from GTA content creator TGG provides official details about the game's map size from Rockstar. According to TGG, Rockstar's co-head of development Rob Nelson established that GTA 6's map of Leonida is "twice the size of GTA 5's map" and "three times the size of Red Dead 2's map." Vice City itself, meanwhile, is also double the size of GTA 5's central city of Los Santos. The surrounding suburbs up the ratio significantly, outpacing Los Santos and its surrounds by 11 times. It's no surprise that Grand Theft Auto 6 is the largest GTA game yet, but even with previous alleged leaks of the game's map, this is the first time we've been able to put specific numbers like this on anything. GTA 5 and RDR2 were already huge games, so GTA 6 dwarfing them promises a truly massive experience. Of course, size isn't everything, and the grand physical scope of the game will make it even more challenging to actually fill up all that space with interesting activities and meaningful locations. Rockstar showed off plenty of interesting places to be and things to do in the Netflix footage, so hopefully that won't be too much of a concern. Some of the best open worlds are the densest ones, though, giving the game an uphill battle to avoid feeling like a giant facade. TGG's video contains plenty of other interesting tidbits about GTA 6, including details regarding the UI, driving systems, the phone, and more. As far as big reveals, though, it's hard to top the revelation of Grand Theft Auto 6's official map size, even if it will be hard to truly feel the scope of those approximate numbers until the game actually releases on November 19 this year.
