GTA 6 $100 Ultimate Edition Is Outselling The Cheaper $80 Option

The ultimate edition comes with a lot of extra in-game content, and turns out most of the people to place their pre-orders so far are willing to pay for it. The $100 Edition Of GTA 6 Has Been Pretty Popular Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was a guest on CNBC (thanks, Insider Gaming) where he broke down how pre-orders for GTA 6 have been going so far. Zelnick didn’t go into specifics, but he did confirm that the more expensive pre-order option is currently the one that has sold the most copies. Zelnick noted that the next Rockstar game’s pre-order period has gone even better than expected, and that sales are skewing more in favor of the ultimate edition. However, the CEO did add that he doesn’t expect that to still be the case when GTA 6 releases on November 19. “That might be a reflection of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering now,” Zelnick noted, which is a fair and astute point to make. The people who placed their GTA 6 pre-orders the second they opened are the ones who have been waiting for this game for years. The people who bought PS5s specifically to play GTA 6, and potentially nothing else. After spending $500+ on a console just for GTA 6, it wouldn’t have mattered if the game cost $200, they’d have still paid it. Zelnick also confirmed GTA 6 won’t be getting a Christmas discount. It would be weird if it was, and wild if he confirmed that now. The Wait For GTA 6's Price Reveal Rockstar The industry wondered how much Rockstar and Take-Two might charge for GTA 6 right up until its pre-order price reveal. Whether it would stick to the $70 industry standard, follow in Mario Kart World’s tyre tracks and charge $80, and even the suggestion that the cheapest edition of the game might cost $100. Take-Two went with $80, and even though the $100 version is selling better for now, at least Zelnick recognizes that likely won’t be the case once the game has been released. As for how the content locked behind the ultimate edition will function, that remains unclear. The $100 version of the game includes shops, barbers, and tattoo parlors that can’t be accessed if you only paid $80 for the game. We might find out more about that on August 27 when an extended look at GTA 6 will premiere exclusively on Netflix. Zelnick refused to tell more about what fans can expect from that presentation when pressed. At present, we don’t even know how long it will run for, just that it will only be available on Netflix for the first six hours, after which point it will be available on YouTube.
