(File photo) Only eco-friendly idols and decorations will be allowed for Ganeshotsav celebrations in Palakkad, District Collector K. Sudheer said here on Thursday.Idols should be made only from clay, mud, paper pulp and natural paints. The manufacture, sale and use of idols made from plaster of Paris, plastic, thermocol and toxic chemical paints have been banned, he said.The Collector was speaking at a review meeting held ahead of the festival. He directed organisers to buy idols only from manufacturers licensed by local self-government bodies.Organisers must inform the authorities in advance about the waterbodies to be used and timings planned for idol immersion. They should also ensure that the waterbodies and surrounding areas are cleaned after the immersion.Additional District Magistrate A.
