A public announcement calling him out and warning him of a fine prompted the man to pick up the waste and take it back home, in an incident that has now gone viral on social media.The incident took place at around 10:15 pm on October 9, the general secretary of the Sector Beta 1 Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) said. The man had brought garbage from his home and was about to dump it beside a wall when he was captured on the sector’s CCTV cameras. He was carrying a child with him.The person monitoring the footage then used the public announcement system to instruct him to remove the garbage immediately and questioned why he had dumped it there. Initially, the man appeared confused about where the voice was coming from. When the warning was repeated, he was told that he would be fined the following morning if he failed to clear the waste. The warning prompted him to pick up the garbage and return home with it.Watch the video here: The RWA had been working continuously to maintain cleanliness in the sector, but some residents continued to throw garbage in the open or dump it along walls in an attempt to avoid being noticed.“Such people are identified by us, following which action is taken to impose fines on them. We have installed CCTV cameras at various locations to monitor who is dumping garbage in the open,” the secretary said.The association uses the cameras to identify those violating cleanliness rules and initiate action against them. The latest incident showed how the surveillance system could also be used to intervene immediately when someone was caught littering.The video has since circulated on social media, garnering praise from people who believe that residents must be held accountable for keeping public spaces clean.- Ends
