Sign in to your ScreenRant account Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Lanterns episode 2 Thanks to the second episode of HBO's new Lanterns series, we may have just received another piece of the puzzle when it comes to the endgame for James Gunn's first phase of DCU movies. Although the series has kept its focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart and their murder case in Nebraska, one key detail in Lanterns episode 2 may be pointing to something bigger down the line. By the end of Lanterns episode 2, viewers are introduced to a pocket dimension kept within Hal Jordan's home in Coast City. Not only is his lantern held within, but the existence of yet another pocket universe in the DCU feels rather significant, especially considering how frequently pocket dimensions have been featured in the new DCU thus far. When taken on its own, John Stewart accessing a pocket dimension seems like little more than adapting a classic piece of Green Lantern mythos from the comics. However, a pattern is definitely forming in the DCU when it comes to pocket dimensions and their use, suggesting that DC Studios may be working to establish some crucial setup for the future of the overarching Gods and Monsters storyline. Lanterns Just Introduced A Brand-New Pocket Dimension In The DCU In Lanterns episode 2, Aaron Pierre's John Stewart accesses a locked pocket dimension inside Hal Jordan's large Coast City house to retrieve Hal's lantern. Needing to recharge his depleted power ring back in Nebraska, Hal sent John to get the lantern while he continued investigating the series of alien murders that brought them to the small town of Rushville. In the original comics from DC, every Green Lantern has access to a pocket dimension where their lanterns and other items can be stored. However, it seems access to said pocket dimension in the DCU is a little more stationary, rather than opened at will by a power ring. In any event, HBO's new Lanterns series has debuted yet another pocket universe to the DCU, a notable addition considering this isn't even the first or second pocket dimension we've seen since 2025's Superman. Will Pocket Dimensions Play A Major Role In Gods of Monsters' Endgame? 2025's Superman already established just how dangerous pocket dimensions can be in the DCU with the one created by Lex Luthor. Luthor's pocket universe possessed multiple access points around the globe while also containing an entire prison where he briefly held Superman, weakening him with kryptonite and a lack of sun exposure. By Superman's ending, Lex's pocket universe became massively unstable, nearly destroying the city of Metropolis and the world at large. Additionally, Peacemaker season 2 heavily expanded on The Quantum Unfolding Chamber introduced in the first season, a pocket dimension of its own containing countless doorways to alternate realities. This allowed Peacemaker to visit a universe where his brother and father are still alive (albeit controlled by Nazis). By the end of Peacemaker season 2, ARGUS seized this technology, with Director Rick Flag Sr. intending to use it to exile dangerous metahumans to a world dubbed Salvation. Now that the new Lanterns series has introduced a completely different version, we now have three major DCU projects establishing some form of accessible yet inherently dangerous pocket universe within the franchise's opening chapter. As such, it seems like the pattern could very well continue before culminating in a bigger, culminating story for God and Monsters. Could Man of Tomorrow's Brainiac utilize pocket dimensions to store his miniaturized civilizations? Will Rick Flag try to exile his former Task Force M allies to Salvation in Creature Commandos season 2? While it may just be a coincidence, I wouldn't be surprised to see more pocket dimensions going forward as it becomes a crucial part of the overall DCU endgame, at least in this first phase of projects.
