Gloomy UK will be hit by balmy 25C temperatures in hours after weeks of rainy washouts

Today, Brits can expect “temperatures near average” according to the Met Office, with variable cloud and sunny spells before cloud and rain move eastwards. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle are forecast tonight across many central and southern areas as blustery showers hit the far northwest while the north enjoys clear spells. Tomorrow’s weather will see cloud and patchy rain across parts of southern England and Wales as it remains brighter and sunnier in the east. On Saturday, Peterborough, Norwich, Cambridge and London will see the very best of the weather, with the southeast forecast to enjoy 23C highs by 4pm on Saturday. Large swathes of the country, including Sheffield, Nottingham and Birmingham are also forecast for at least 20C temperatures in the afternoon. Across the country, low teens and early twenties are expected for the most part of Sunday, with London and the south again forecast to enjoy the sunniest weather. Both Monday and Tuesday will see these highs, with the majority of England reaching temperatures of at least 20C by 4pm on those days. By Wednesday, conditions will become a bit cooler, returning to autumn averages of low teens and early twenties across the country.
