For one, the fact that Powell not only stars in but co-created the TV show with Loki's Michael Waldron right when he was becoming a movie star is exciting. It is clear that Powell is passionate about the story, and Chad Powers is a show that thrives on just that: heart. The comedy series sees Powell play Russ Holliday, a former star college quarterback who threw it all away and now attempts to fix his mistakes by donning Hollywood-grad prosthetics and becoming the peculiar, goofy, and lovable Chad Powers. Chad Powers season 1 was a full-on comedy, even though there were a few more dramatic moments when Powell lifted the mask to show Russ' inner turmoil. However, in season 2's final couple of episodes, as Gerry learns that Chad is Russ and, due to that lie, he was able to get Gerry's spot as the Catfish's starting QB, ending his dreams, Chad Powers descends into thriller territory. Gerry dons a The Purge-like mask as he attacks Danny at home in a sequence that is so intense and dark that it feels taken straight out of a horror movie. For a good chunk of time there, it seemed like Gerry might actually kill someone Chad loved after Danny planted a gun in his locker and the cops found it. In the Chad Powers season 2 finale, Russ has to deal with being blackmailed, as more thriller elements infuse the show with the necessary grit to lead to a sudden rush of euphoria as the Catfish finds a way to win against all odds and the Gerry situation is defused in a shocking manner at the very last second. This shows that Chad Powers is a series that knows how to reinvent itself and always stay fresh, inspiring confidence in Powell's upcoming projects. In cold numbers, Chad Powers season 2 has already proven itself superior to season 1 in a few ways. On Rotten Tomatoes, Chad Powers season 1 sits at a decent 60% critics' score based on 52 reviews. Well, while that score could still fluctuate, as it is too early to tell, Chad Powers season 2 currently towers above the first season with a rare perfect 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 6 reviews.
