‘Gen-Z youth groups’ demand clarity on NIELIT

Poornachandra Kumar Hundreds of students, parents and youth activists led by YSRCP gathered at a prominent centre in Tirupati on Friday (September 11, 2026) and demanded the government to give clarity on the status of ‘National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology’ (NIELIT), sanctioned to Tirupati by the Union Government.Interestingly, the demonstration was conducted by self-styled Gen-Z groups under the slogan ‘Cockroach Tirupati’, reached the main gate of Sri Venkateswara University in a protest march.Member of Parliament Dr. M. Gurumoorthy, MLC Cipai Subramanyam and YSRCP constituency in-charge Bhumana Abhinay Reddy extended support to the movement and sought an explanation from the government, in the wake talk going on about moving the institute from Tirupati to Amaravati. The District Collector has since clarified that the centre is not being moved as rumoured.Dr. Gurumoorthy recalled his painstaking efforts during the erstwhile YSRCP regime to get the centre to Tirupati and the plan to train 4,000 to 12,000 local youth in industry-oriented technical skills. “The government has to spell out the status of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared for establishing a permanent campus in Tirupati on an extent of 15 acres”, he demanded.Mr. Abhinay Reddy alleged that the National Forensic Science University and the Skill University had also been shifted out of Rayalaseema, posing a great challenge to the backward region.
