Gas Station Hit, Explosions Rock Kyiv as Russia Launches 200-Drone Attack

Russian forces attacked Kyiv with drones early Tuesday, Sept. 15, with explosions heard across the capital and two persons injured after an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) struck gas stations, according to Ukrainian officials. An air raid alert has been declared in Kyiv due to a UAV threat. We urge residents to proceed to the nearest shelters,” the message read. At the same time, the Ukrainian Air Force tracked jet-powered drones entering the Kyiv region and heading toward the capital before subsequently appearing over the city itself. Explosions were heard in Kyiv at approximately 5:34 a.m. and again at 5:42 a.m. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko later reported on Telegram that a Russian drone had struck a gas station in the city’s Darnytskyi district, injuring one person. “Medics hospitalized one injured person. The man is in critical condition,” he wrote. He also said that, according to preliminary information, a warehouse facility in the Obolonskyi district had been hit. A drone threat was announced in Kyiv again at 7:49 a.m. At around 8 a.m., Kyiv Post correspondents heard a very loud explosion. Klitschko subsequently reported that a UAV had apparently struck a non-residential area in the Solomianskyi district. “Emergency services are en route to the scene,” he added. In an 8:51 a.m. report, Klitschko said heavy smoke was reported in the Holosiivskyi district following a drone strike on a gas station. “Two people have already been injured in the morning attack on the capital. Medics have hospitalized both of the injured,” the mayor said. 187 drones downed or suppressed According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 200 strike UAVs against Ukraine starting at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14. The attack included Shahed-type drones, including jet-powered variants, as well as Gerbera and “Parodiya” (Parody) decoy drones. The attack was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups. “According to preliminary data, as of 08:00 a.m., air defense forces had shot down or suppressed 187 enemy UAVs,” the Air Force said.
