Gas prices for 09/25/26: Prices expected to set record as most expensive September ever

In a blog post issued Thursday, AAA said it expects the month to end with the highest average price ever recorded for the month. “Typically, the start of autumn brings lower gas prices, but lingering volatility in the Strait of Hormuz and the high cost of crude oil are driving up pump prices,” AAA wrote. “This month is on track to set a new September record. So far, the average for this month is $4.30, higher than the previous September record of $3.83 set in 2023.”Over the last week, gasoline demand increased from 8.79 million barrels per day to 8.84 million per day, AAA reports. The total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 207.7 million barrels to 206 million. Gasoline production also decreased slightly in the last week, dropping from 9.64 million barrels to 9.59 million. Gasoline prices in general were up 5 cents on average nationally over the last week. according to AAA. The ongoing war with Iran has impacted gas prices around the globe since it began in late February. Yahoo reports that Iran has submitted a plan to the U.S. that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, it’s unclear if that plan has been well received by President Donald Trump and his administration.
