Garth Brooks Plays Surprise Set at Denver Bar Under the Alias Yukon Jack

The country star is set to play multiple shows at Ball Arena in Denver this weekend. Michael Buckner/Variety Trending on Billboard Garth Brooks will spearhead four sold-out shows this weekend at Ball Arena in Denver on Sept. 4-6 as part of his Blame It All on My Roots Tour, but on Thursday (Sept. 3), he gave a surprise intimate preview show to the crowd that packed Denver-area bar The Grizzly Rose. Explore See latest videos, charts and news The approximately 2,000-capacity venue had recently begun promoting a show with a singer by the name of Yukon Jack, but country music fans quickly speculated it was Brooks, given that the venue’s website stated that tickets could not be purchased in advance of the show. Brooks has previously played The Grizzly Rose, including a concert in 1991, while fans also connected his alias to the fact that Brooks’ hometown is Yukon, Okla. Brooks also once performed a concert in New Mexico under that same alias in 1993. In addition, the country star nodded to The Grizzly Rose in the lyrics of his 1995 song “The Old Stuff.” “There’s no better music than live country music,” Brooks told the crowd at The Grizzly Rose shortly after taking the stage Thursday night, according to fan-captured footage. “I’ll tell you right off the bat, this place is even better than I remembered.” From there, social media videos show him roaring through many of his hits, including “Rodeo,” “Friends in Low Places” and “The Dance.” Other upcoming shows at The Grizzly Rose include Randy Rogers Band, Aaron Watson, Jackson Dean and Joe Nichols. Brooks’ Blame It All on My Roots Tour will also visit Illinois’ Allstate Arena for shows on Sept. 10-13, Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena for shows on Sept. 18-19 and Orlando’s Kia Center for shows on Sept. 25-26.
