Games Inbox: When will the next mainline Zelda game be out?

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time – when’s the next non-remake and non-spin-off?(Nintendo) The Thursday letters page tries to estimate when the next mainline Zelda will be out, as one reader is glad to hear Star Wars Zero Company staff are back to work. Games Inbox is a collection of our readers’ letters, comments, and opinions. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.uk Six years laterI read with interest the recent Reader’s Feature about how 2027 was going to be a great year for Nintendo. I wouldn’t forget Nintendo’s ability to miss an open goal but if some of the games that have been AWOL for so long start appearing then I do agree there’s a good chance. The feature mentioned maybe hearing about the next main Zelda next year, because Tears Of The Kingdom is now three years old, but I think that’s probably a bit optimistic. He’s right that Nintendo does tend to announce Zelda games earlier than most others, but I don’t see any way that the next game is going to be out before 2029 and probably a year or two after that. It’s going to need at least six year and probably longer given whatever they’re doing with it and the fact that it takes longer to make Switch 2 games. It took six years to make Tears Of The Kingdom and that used the same map as the last game, so there’s no way the next game is arriving before 2029, in my opinion. When it’ll be announced is harder to predict but while there’s a small chance of next year I think Mario will be the focus in 2027 and a Zelda reveal is more likely the year after.Bootles Want GTA 6 news? War never changesBeen playing Gears Of War: E-Day on Game Pass and I’m in two minds. It looks good and plays well but it seems to be basically the same game as always. I’ve just got to the open world bit but it’s really small and they put where all the collectibles are on the map, so combined with the detective vision thing you’ve got, there’s really no exploration, because you know where everything is. The graphics are impressive, but the game is still showing the same things. All it’s been so far is blown-up city and I’m not sure it’s going to change much from that. I probably will finish it, if it’s not too long, because it’s essentially free but there is no way I would’ve paid full price for this. And the chances of anyone buying an Xbox just to play this, which is presumably the point of making it a console exclusive, I just don’t know how anyone at Microsoft could possibly think that. I feel bad for the developers if they lose their jobs but it’s not a very interesting game to me.Purple Ranger Back to workGlad to hear that the Star Wars Zero Company people that were put on ‘furlough’ are starting to come back to work, even if it’s apparently not all of them. I didn’t realise before but apparently there was some kind of fight over who owned the company too, so it wasn’t necessarily just that EA stopped paying them. Really love the game and I hope the developer can keep going, so we get more of it and of turn-based games in general. My big hope is that one day they’ll be able to make XCOM 3, even if that seems a way off for the moment. For now, I’ll settle for some DLC. Bonus points if it features an Andor cameo. I’ll allow a Bad Batch tie-in if that’s all they can get.Limpton Email your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.uk Everyday cut scenesI can’t say that what I was most looking forward to in GTA 6 was seeing Jason in the nude in a shower, but apparently it’s details like that that Rockstar wants to push at the moment. Although there’s something different that disturbs me about that news. Why are we seeing him take a shower at all? Nude or otherwise? If it’s a one-off cut scene then fine but that’s not the impression it gives. The way it’s written it sounds like it’s a regular thing that happens every time he or Lucia wakes up. Are we really going to have to sit through that every time? I was immediately worried about reports of GTA 6 being more grounded and realistic and every time we hear more about it, it sounds worse. No one sensible should want GTA 6 to be realistic. If it was, you’d be gunned down and shot by the police and/or someone else in the first few minutes and that would be that. It’s GTA, not a life simulator.Eddie Don't miss Gaming news! I think it really is just the portable, and the portable is just a low-powered PlayStation 5. Although my reason for thinking that is that it’s logical and sensible, which I guess doesn’t really fit with Sony’s usual way of operating. A PS5 Pro+, that they call a PlayStation 6, and a PS5 portable is the only thing that makes sense to me, in terms of how much it’d cost to buy and how much it’d cost to make new games for a properly next gen console.Kouff Making the listCor, it’s going to be a busy run of months for games I really want to play but would also like to support with day one buys. I’ve picked up Star Wars: Galactic Racer, it’s fantastic. But I would also like to get Jonathan Blow’s new game Order Of The Sinking Star. Braid is the Indie game that really capture my imagination when Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox kicked off the indie revolution on console. Can’t believe Braid is 18 years ago now. Then in December I’d like to get Professor Layton And The New World of Steam, followed by Metroid Ravenous in January 2026, and Fable in February 2027. GTA 6 doesn’t need my help but I have pre-ordered it after ShopTo had a 5% off weekend sale and I could pick up £70 of PSN vouchers for £57.80. I have cancelled my foil cover pre-order for Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. Being a game I’m very familiar with, and that it doesn’t need my help, means I’m happy to stick on the very burdened wishlists. There’s also a couple of interesting horror indies to consider this month, in Silver Pines and Tenebris Somina. To many good games man.Simundo Portable powerI was fascinated by your article on the Sony handheld. I’m not sure of the logic, as technically their handhelds have been great. I remember buying my son one but within a year they stopped making games for them. They don’t seem to have been a mass market hit in the past, so I’m wondering what they feel will be different this time.TWO MACKS GC: The PSP was highly successful. It outsold every Xbox except the 360 and was only a few million behind that. The PlayStation Portal has also been much more popular than Sony expected. Hidden cloudMany thanks for the article about Star Wars: Galactic Racer being available to stream for free on Amazon Luna. I’ve been subscribed to Amazon Prime for years and have never heard of this service nor seen a single advertisement for it (and Amazon certainly aren’t shy when it comes to in-your-face marketing). I can only assume most other people haven’t heard of it either as the service ran flawlessly for an entire evening of gaming joy, in which I fired up several games that have been on my wishlist for some time. Using my laptop and an Xbox controller I had a quick go on Galactic Racer which, even with a very small amount of lag, was still very enjoyable. I then played through the openings of Star Wars Outlaws and Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, both of which I enjoyed and will return to once I have finished Dispatch, which grabbed from the start and didn’t let it’s hooks out until I was burning the midnight oil. There are a few other games on there I’d like to try as well. There’s also a ‘claim and download’ section (almost hidden at the bottom of the Luna home page) where (if you are a Prime member) you can claim and download, via Epic Games Store or Microsoft Store, a small collection of games to play locally if you have a suitable laptop or PC. There’s nothing brand new in there but there are some good games at present including Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, and High On Life. All at no additional cost to myself… goodness knows how much it’s costing Amazon, what their intentions are or what the publishers get out of it, but I’ll make the most of it whilst it lasts.Dan GC: It is all very odd. Luna has been around since 2020, but they still seem to treat it like an open beta. Believe it or not marketing for it has actually increased in the last few months, so you can imagine what it was like before. Inbox also-ransReallly loving Ace Combat 8 at the moment and the soundtrack is just chef’s kiss. Don’t know why it doesn’t get mentioned more but I appreciate GC bringing it up in their review.Campbell Is it me or was that IGN preview of GTA 6 really boring? I don’t feel I learned anything unexpected. I’m not sure if that’s their fault or Rockstar’s but I’m beginning to think that maybe there’s not much to say other than the graphics are good.Slippy-X Email your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.uk The small printNew Inbox updates appear every weekday morning, with special Hot Topic Inboxes at the weekend.
