CIVIL servants who work from home have been handed more than £600,000 to pay for their heating bills. According to HMRC, seven per cent of those working for them can claim the cash – a total of 5,259 people. Mike Wood, the shadow Cabinet Office minister told The Sunday Telegraph: “It is astonishing that civil servants working from home are having their hating bills covered by hard-pressed taxpayers.” READ MORE ON THE CIVIL SERVICE He added: “Families have enough on their plate without having to shell out for handouts to public servants. “The Government should focus on getting energy bills down for everyone.” We revealed last week how energy bills are set to soar to the highest level in three years, in the latest blow to struggling households. The energy price cap, which is the maximum providers can charge per unit of energy, is expected to increase by 4% in October.
