From lame duck a l’orange to a pronoun burger: Internet wastes no time in mocking Trump over midterms wipeout

A blue tsunami has knocked President Donald Trump and Republicans off their feet — and many on the Internet wasted no time in taking a victory lap. Democrats seized control of both the House and the Senate in a massive repudiation of Trump in the U.S. midterms, with plans to stall the president’s top agenda items and launch investigations into the president, key members of his administration, family and allies. The seismic shift provided ample opportunity for memes and jokes at the expense of a president long known for being a caustic and savvy social media user. “Lame Duck a l’Orange,” Alex Thomson, Chief Correspondent of Channel 4 News in the U.K., posted on X. “Trump got regime change in Texas before Iran,” another X user wrote, referencing Democrat James Talarico’s historic win over Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton for Texas’ Senate seat.President Donald Trump had asked voters to pretend like he was on the ballot on Election Day - but the appeal backfired (AFP/Getty) “Pete Hegseth wanted people to watch a public execution, well they’re seeing it tonight,” read another post.Canadian novelist and frequent Trump critic Margaret Atwood reshared someone else’s tweet that read “Canada is looking thru the blinds watching the crack house next door get raided.” “Congratulations to Donald Trump on a successful regime change,” The Daily Show cracked. “Bro got beat so bad he didn’t even try calling it rigged,” one user stated. Other Democrats declared thatthey were: “Libbing La Vida Loca.” “Somehow...libbing out feels good in a place like this,” one X user joked, alongside a gif of Nicole Kidman’s AMC advertisement.“Feeling like when the Barbies restored Barbieland,” another wrote. “hey can i get a pronoun burger with extra woke sauce please,” one person wrote. A doctored image of blue smoke appearing to emerge from a chimney of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican was tweeted and retweeted.Another user made their own twist on the viral AI NPR Tiny Desk meme, putting presidents Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton alongside George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush behind the desk in place of performers. Others shared their wildest ideas for the U.S. with Democrats now in control of both chambers of Congress. “The Ballroom will be a Planned Parenthood,” one X user proclaimed, referring to the $600 million project that Trump tore down the East Wing of the White House to build. “We’re renaming the White House to the POC house,” another added. “after tonight ChatGPT is rebranding to CHATLGBT,” one commentor joked. Some were also gleeful over the idea of “blexas” — or Texas turning blue. “rip dolly parten you would have loved blexas,” one X user stated. Another added: “she’s from blexas i can tell by the way she’s libbing around the room.” Some users even took the trend to other states. One X user proclaimed: “blexis, blansas, blorida, and blouisiana was promised to me 3000 years ago.”Another chimed in: “Don’t forget Blueorgia,” and a third replied: “Blorth Blarolina incoming.”
