Free Final Fantasy Game Comes To Xbox Game Pass On October 29

Published Oct 20, 2026, 5:03 PM EDT Ben Brosofsky has been writing for Screen Rant since 2022 and editing since 2024. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Cinema & Media Arts. Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted. Few games can be as transporting as a grand Final Fantasy adventure, and one of the most memorable journeys will soon be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers. While the franchise is historically associated with Nintendo and PlayStation consoles, Xbox fans have gotten to experience more of the games in recent years, and publisher Square Enix has suggested that it's interested in a multi-platform approach going into the future. That's good news for fans, as Final Fantasy 16 and the FF7 remake games both embraced a window of PlayStation exclusivity despite the success that FF13 and FF15 had with simultaneous Xbox launches. For Xbox Game Pass subscribers still waiting for the right time to embark on the FF7 remake series, now might be the perfect moment. As announced on Xbox Wire, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will come to Xbox Game Pass on October 29. The game will be available for PC, Premium, and Ultimate subscribers on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is the definitive release of FF7 Remake, the first chapter in the remake trilogy. This version upgrades the graphics and performance for current-generation hardware and includes the Episode Intermission DLC, which tells an additional story starring the side character Yuffie. Intergrade originally launched as the PS5 and PC version of the game in 2021 before finally making its way to Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 this January. Final Fantasy 7 remains one of the most compelling stories in the Final Fantasy franchise, and FF7 Remake takes the opportunity to flesh out plenty of characters and relationships that played second fiddle in the original game. Taking place entirely in Midgar, the city where the opening hours of the original FF7 occurred, it provides a closer look at the eco-terrorist group Avalanche and adds plenty of new side activities. The sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, is not currently available on Xbox Game Pass, but it can still be purchased on Xbox platforms. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, meanwhile, is set to conclude the story on April 8, 2027, barring any delays. This time, the launch will be simultaneous across PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, so anyone who jumps into the story now won't have to wait too long to see it through to the end. The FF7 remake games are far from perfect, losing some of the original atmosphere and grit in favor of a maximalist, fun-oriented approach. They also make plenty of narrative changes in order to present a new take on the story, with some tweaks proving more effective than others. Like the original, though, they're undeniably interesting, and it's easy to appreciate the sheer scale and production value brought to the table. If Xbox Game Pass subscribers are looking for a good RPG to sink their teeth into as they wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 or idle away the holiday season, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade could be the perfect choice.
