Four ways England could line up vs Spain as Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer battle for No10 and teen eyes starting role

THOMAS TUCHEL has refreshed his England squad after their World Cup heartache and the battle for the number 10 spot looks fiercer than ever. Cole Palmer‘s fine early-season form for Chelsea has earned him a recall to the Three Lions squad that already houses new team-mate Morgan Rogers and, of course, the mercurial Jude Bellingham. But how can Tuchel get Palmer and Bellingham into the same side and firing? Or is there only room for one? If the German hasn’t learned his lessons from this summer, he’ll likely play Elliot Anderson and Declan Rice as a base – a pair worth a combined £231m – with Bellingham marauding in front. That seemed to work perfectly well during the World Cup where Bellingham had seven goals and one assist. For this friendly encounter with world champions Spain, Tuchel might shuffle his pack to give some chances to those who weren’t afforded them in North America. You’d expect starts for the likes of Lewis-Skelly, Ngumoha on the wing and Palmer to take up the 10 spot. But Tuchel has been known to play 5-3-2 in the past, as well. And that could allow Palmer to play in an advanced role of that middle three with Bellingham partnering Kane. He played the false 9 position well in his first season with Real Madrid where he netted 23 goals, or he could play slightly deeper behind Kane. It’s also worth noting in this scenario that Palmer has played deeper in centre-midfield for free-scoring Chelsea this season. Other options include Tuchel sticking with his 4-2-3-1 and we could see the three feature Bellingham in the 10 while Palmer comes off the right and Rogers operates from the left. But, Bellingham can drop back into the 8 role alongside a Rice or someone else. He did so a couple of times at the World Cup to great effect. The fact that Phil Foden isn’t even in this discussion right now tells you a lot about the attacking quality that England possesses at the moment and we haven’t even talked about where Eberechi Eze is going to operate. Will Tuchel be bold and play with the same attacking intent the Three Lions showed against France in the third place playoff? If he wants to do that, getting Palmer and Bellingham onto the same pitch is a solid idea. Comment now
