It looks like the next example of that might be finishing moves, perhaps functioning in a similar way to the ones you can perform in Call of Duty. Epic Games According to Hypex, but originally discovered and shared by a10tion and Nova, Epic Games is working on a finishing move mechanic that will let you eliminate knocked opponents in style. So not exactly like sneaking up behind an opponent for an execution like in Call of Duty, but a similar premise that appears to have been inspired by it. The datamined details about Fortnite finishers reveal that, when performed on a downed opponent, you and the targeted player will cut to a custom animation. Again, similar to Call of Duty, although there are countless games where that’s the case, dating all the way back to the iconic finishers in the original Mortal Kombat games. There will be multiple animations, which potentially sounds like these are essentially going to be cosmetic items that can be unlocked, giving players the chance to try and obtain rarer finishers than anyone else, similar to everything else you can unlock in Fortnite. Think of them as emotes, except rather than picking and choosing when you perform them, the animations will only ever be activated when you’re adding insult to injury by eliminating a knocked player from the match. Fortnite Finishing Move Questlines Epic Games The only other information gleaned from the finishing moves datamine for now is that there will be quests attached to the new mechanic. Presumably just quests that task you with performing finishing moves on a certain number of opponents to earn, what I would hope, will be a significant amount of XP. As much as I’m eager to start performing finishers in Fortnite, it’s going to be tricky, particularly on a busy map, as you’ll be a sitting duck should anyone spot you while that custom animation is doing its thing. Finishing moves will provide another way for Fortnite to embed other IPs into its big, mixed-up universe. Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion is already in the game, so adding a “Get over here” finishing move would make all the sense in the world. I’m also now all-encompassed by the idea of using Seth Rollins’ Curb Stomp on someone to score a victory royale. If that move is ever added to Fortnite, I will play nothing else until I make that dream a reality. I don’t care if it takes me years.
