Former Idukki MLA Jose Kuttiyani | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Senior Congress leader and former Idukki MLA Jose Kuttiyani passed away on Monday. He was 87.Mr. Kuttiyani was elected to the Keralam Legislative Assembly from the Idukki constituency in 1982. Following the creation of Idukki district in 1972, he served as the first president of the District Congress Committee (DCC). He also served as an All India Congress Committee (AICC) member and a Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) executive member. He played a key role in establishing the Idukki District Co-operative Bank.Due to differences with the party leadership, Mr. Kuttiyani parted ways with the Congress and contested the Idukki parliamentaryconstituency in 2009 with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) support. He later joined the Trinamool Congress, serving as its Keralam State president for several years, before returning to the Congress in 2022 as an advisor.He is survived by his wife, Rani Jose, and children, Sam Jose, Manoj Jose, Kshema Santhosh, Paul Jose. The funeral will be held at St. Sebastian’s Church, Sibygiri, Muttom, on Tuesday.KPCC president Sunny Joseph expressed his condolences, stating that Mr. Kuttiyani was a pillar of the Congress in Idukki who worked tirelessly as both an organisational leader and a legislator for the region’s development.
