Sign in to your ScreenRant account Jason Momoa may be best known now for playing Aquaman in the DC universe, but his career has gone in a number of different places over the course of the past two decades. Before he debuted as the aquatic hero in a cameo appearance in 2016, Momoa had a notable role as Khal Drago in the first season of Game of Thrones. This helped catapult his stardom, and today he is in roles in everything from Street Fighter to The Minecraft Movie to a more serious part in Apple TV's Chief of War. Between Game of Thrones and Aquaman came one of Momoa's more overlooked but no less essential series: The Red Road. Originally airing on The Sundance Channel, The Red Road is a two-season series about a police officer who grapples with ongoing tensions in his community and family alike, which have bloody and devastating consequences. In it, Momoa plays Phillip Kopus, an ex-convict who forms an unlikely bond with the lead cop (played by Martin Henderson). In addition to Henderson and Momoa, The Red Road stars Julianne Nicholson, Tamara Tunie, and Kiowa Gordon. Momoa's The Red Road Is Officially Coming Back To Netflix Now, The Red Road is officially getting a new streaming home, and it is about to reached a much wider audience. The complete series — which includes 12 episodes across its two seasons —is headed over to Netflix starting on November 1. This is a change from the show's current setup, wherein both seasons are on Netflix, and season 1 can be found on Plex and The Roku Channel. The Red Road has overall had quite the journey on Netflix, as it previous was on the platform for a limited term agreement starting December 2025 before leaving in June of this year. Now, those who missed The Red Road during its first iteration on the platform have the chance to see it again. The series has maintained an overall positive reception since the time it was originally released, making it a good watch for Momoa fans. The show has a 67% Tomatometer from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even higher 85% Popcornmeter from audiences. With the audience response high for this show, it will be interesting to see how well that reflects onto audience response on the streaming charts. The Series Is Perfect For Fans Of Justified & Dark Winds Quantrell D. Colbert/©Sundance/Courtesy Everett Collection Genre-wise, The Red Road is a thriller that can be classified as a neo-Western, as well as a police procedural. This cross-section of genres has proven successful with other shows such as the Emmy-winning Justified and more recently with Dark Winds. The Red Road may be lesser known, but it serves as a great addition to this neo-Western oeuvre for fans of these other series.
