See more Daily Mail on Google - save us as a Preferred Source Published: 19:39 EDT, 25 August 2026 | Updated: 20:08 EDT, 25 August 2026 A man has been slapped with a hefty fine after dumping three fridges on a city centre street.Algirdas Bardauskas, 44, selfishly abandoned the machines on Fold Street, Wolverhampton, on August 3 last year - later claiming he had intended to pick them up again.But he eventually admitted to the illegal offloading - scoring a healthy reward for the person who reported him.Bardauskas, of Chester Street, Wolverhampton, was caught on camera ditching two fridges at around 2.30pm.He then returned to the scene with a third fridge which he also left at the roadside.City of Wolverhampton Council was alerted to the unwelcome collection, and the environmental crime team were able to trace the vehicle's registered keeper through DVLA records.It later became clear that Bardauskas had borrowed the van from the registered keeper.He admitted to his afternoon's work after being interviewed by council officers and shown images of himself in action. Algirdas Bardauskas, 44, was caught on camera depositing three fridges on a street in Wolverhampton He claimed to need the van to be empty for some work, and that he intended to pick the fridges up laterA spokesperson for the council said Bardauskas had claimed he needed the van emptied for some work that day, and had intended to collect the fridges later.He claimed to have returned to the street a week later to collect them, but found they had gone.Bardauskas apologised for what he had done and said he would accept his punishment.At Dudley Magistrates Court on August 19, Bardauskas pleaded guilty to one charge of depositing controlled waste under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.Magistrates fined him £738, ordered a victim surcharge of £295 and awarded full costs of £1,793.16. The costs awarded to the council will be reinvested back into its environmental crime service.An eyewitness who reported the fly tip will receive a £100 Enjoy Wolverhampton gift card as a reward.Cllr Qaiser Azeem, cabinet member for resident services at City of Wolverhampton Council, said: 'Fly tipping is a blight on our communities, and we will not tolerate this kind of irresponsible behaviour in Wolverhampton.'Our environmental crime team is committed to tracking down and taking action against those who dump waste illegally, and this prosecution demonstrates that offenders will be held accountable for their actions.'I would like to thank the resident who reported this incident.
