Released back in 1994, the title is best known for its cast of fourteen playable characters, many of which are still as iconic to this day. With many considering FFVI to have set a precedent for the RPG genre as a whole, there is no denying its impact on the gaming industry as a whole. This makes it all the more surprising that it is yet to receive an official modern-day remake, with Square Enix claiming that a full-scale 3D reimagining on the scale of Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth scope would be too big of an undertaking. As such, it would require a 5-part series, which is seemingly not viable for the studio at this time. Despite this, it seems as though Square Enix still wants to cash in on the love for Final Fantasy VI, albeit in a way that fans have not been campaigning for for the past three decades. Now, Square Enix has announced its latest batch of Final Fantasy merchandise, and this time, it is dedicated to Final Fantasy VI itself. The “Mini Melody TV” toys, the origins of the Final Fantasy franchise, can be collected as part of a retro and minimalist CRT television-shaped toy. Not only that, but these toys are also interactive, and will flicker to life with the flick of a switch, with LED lights illuminating the screen and familiar music filling the air. With plenty of these brand-new collectibles to purchase, the full list is: FINAL FANTASY- Mini Melody TV “Opening Theme” FINAL FANTASY II- Mini Melody TV “Rebel Theme” FINAL FANTASY III- Mini Melody TV “Eternal Wind” FINAL FANTASY IV- Mini Melody TV “Red Wings” FINAL FANTASY V- Mini Melody TV “The Battle on the Big Bridge” FINAL FANTASY VI- Mini Melody TV “Searching for Friends” Despite featuring interactive elements, the “Mini Melody TV” toys from Square Enix come in at a respectable $13 each or, perhaps most exciting, is that you can grab the entire collection for just $75. Not only that, but you do not have long to wait to get your hands on them, as the merchandise goes live on 29 January 2027. You can view the full collection here and try to decide which ones you will want to secure in the new year. It may not be the Final Fantasy VI news we all want, i.e, an official remake, but it is still an exciting way to celebrate your love for the franchise which has revolutionised the RPG genre for the past four decades.
