Featured Kalshi prediction market: How to trade the SEC Championship winner

The rest of the SEC will try to unseat Georgia, which won the conference championship in 2025 and has played for the title in five straight years.AP Photo/Mike StewartIt’s been said that football “just means more” to SEC fans, and they have proved it in August.More fans have bought shares of the SEC Championship at Kalshi than any other Power-Four conference championship as of Aug. 20. More than $425,000 has been traded on the teams to hoist the SEC Championship Trophy in Atlanta on Dec. 5.But there are still 3.5 months until the conference championship is decided, and a whole lot will happen between now and then. Part of that was due to the Bulldogs being in the SEC East until 2024, but they have finished among the top two teams in the conference standings each of the past two years.QB Arch Manning, the Heisman Trophy favorite, expects to bring Texas back after he struggled last season.LSU, which poached head coach Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss, and 2025 runner-up Alabama may have a say in the debate as well.SEC Championship contendersGeorgia BulldogsProbability: 27% at KalshiCoach Kirby Smart continues to run the best program in the conference, much to the dismay of Georgia’s rivals. The Bulldogs are ranked third in the nation in the AP poll, trailing only Ohio State and Oregon of the Big Ten. Reigning SEC Championship MVP Gunner Stockton is back for one last run at the SEC and national championships. He is fresh off an outstanding year when he threw for 2,894 yards and 24 TDs. He also rushed for 462 yards and 10 touchdowns.Defense has been Georgia’s calling card, and the Bulldogs ranked second in the SEC in points allowed per game (17.6). They should be stout again, led by Butkus Award watch-list member Raylen Wilson and preseason All-American safety K.J. Bolden.Texas LonghornsProbability: 24% at KalshiThe Longhorns opened 2025 ranked No. 1 in the nation but crumbled under the weight of those expectations, especially on offense. Manning ranked sixth in the conference in passing yards and 14th in completion percentage.Texas opens this season ranked fifth. Coach Steve Sarkisian landed a key wideout, Cam Coleman from Auburn, and running back Raleek Brown from Arizona State in the transfer portal. Whether Texas gets back to the conference title game depends on how it does in its extremely challenging schedule. The Longhorns will play at Tennessee, Missouri, LSU and Texas A&M. The Longhorns will host Ole Miss while also playing its annual neutral-site game against Oklahoma at the Texas State Fair.Alabama Crimson TideProbability: 10% at KalshiThe Crimson Tide have questions at quarterback after Ty Simpson went to the NFL. Fortunately, Alabama has time to answer those, since it will not face a ranked opponent until Georgia comes to Tuscaloosa on Oct. 10.Austin Mack and Keelon Russell are battling for the starting-QB spot, but when the Crimson Tide are right, they run the ball with physical backs and an enormous offensive line. That will be their offensive paradigm again, keyed by 326-pound left tackle Jackson Lloyd.Bama must play defense as well as the rest of the conference to compete for the title. Alabama ranked third in overall defense, and fourth in points allowed per game (19.2), which is a big reason they reached the SEC Championship Game last year.LSU TigersProbability: 10% at KalshiKiffin’s move from Oxford to Baton Rouge was the biggest story of the 2025 College Football Playoff, especially after Ole Miss advanced to the CFP semis before falling to Miami. But Kiffin wins. He turned the Rebels into a national power, and Tiger Nation put up $91 million, plus $3 million for his buyout, in hopes he will do the same in Baton Rouge. The first thing Kiffin did was raid the portal, notably bringing in former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt and wideouts Winston Watkins Jr. from Ole Miss, Eugene Wilson from Florida, Jackson Harris from Hawaii and Jayce Brown from Kansas State. The Tigers needed the offensive upgrades after ranking dead last in offense (333.5) and 14th in the conference in points per game (22.8). Kiffin generally doesn’t care about defense, but there should be enough talent on the roster for the Tigers to be in the mix for the conference championship.Texas A&M AggiesProbability: 10% at KalshiAll the Aggies had to do was defeat Texas in Austin to seal an undefeated season, an SEC Championship berth and potentially a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. Instead, A&M lost to its biggest rival in its regular-season finale, then scored just three points in its shocking CFP home loss to Miami.QB Marcel Reed is back and will try to wash the bitter taste of the end of 2025 from his mouth. Coach Mike Elko landed the third-best class from the transfer portal, according to On3, including wideout Isaiah Horton from Alabama.Texas A&M once again has a favorable schedule in the first half of the season. Its final five games — at Alabama, at South Carolina, home vs. Tennessee, at Oklahoma, home vs. Texas — will probably decide whether the Aggies are in the CFP and potentially the SEC Championship Game.MORE FROM OUR SPORTS BETTING EXPERTSLearn more about our gaming editorial staff. If you or a loved one has questions or needs to talk to a professional about gambling, call 1-800-GAMBLER or visit 1800gambler.net for more information.
