Exclusive Mayfair club frequented by royals shut down after ‘serious crime’

Officers reported serious ‘disorder’ at Maison Estelle on September 19 and have requested an urgent review of the venue’s licence. In its application, the Metropolitan Police said there was evidence the club had failed to comply with multiple licensing conditions. Located in an 18th century Georgian townhouse, Maison Estelle has welcomed celebrity guests including Liam Gallagher, Lewis Hamilton and both Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Annual membership costs start at £4,250 on top of a £2,250 joining fee, with prospective members requiring a referral from an existing affiliate. Westminster Council confirmed the venue’s alcohol licence was suspended with immediate effect following a private hearing on Thursday. Councillors will review the licence at a full hearing to take place within 28 days. Maison Estelle self describes as a ‘new school’ club with no ‘stuffy’ rules attracting people with ‘plenty to say and nothing to prove’. A spokesperson for the Met Police said: ‘The Metropolitan Police Service applied to Westminster Council to review the licence of a venue in Mayfair on the basis that the premises is allegedly associated with serious crime, or serious disorder, or both. ‘A private hearing took place on Thursday, 24 September and the venue’s alcohol licence was suspended with immediate effect. A further hearing will be held in due course.‘The hearing was held in private due to an ongoing criminal investigation.’ The alleged criminal incident is one of several within the last year at Mayfair clubs and restaurants. The Mistress of Mayfair was closed for several weeks in August after a man had his throat slashed in a knife attack, following an altercation in the basement restaurant. It was the venue’s second major incident within a year, and a subsequent investigation found the restaurant had not complied with several licence conditions, including a failure to check all guests’ ID and properly record incidents. Latest London news A spokesperson for Maison Estelle said: ‘We have closed Maison Estelle for a few weeks while we carry out investigations after receiving information from the Metropolitan Police and following a serious public safety matter outside the premises. ‘The safety of our staff, our members and their guests will always come first.
