JAŸ-Z has joined forces with Rick Rubin for new documentary series JAŸ-Z IN 8, but what songs are featured? Find out below. The eight-part series sees the pair sit down for an extended conversation about the rapper’s music, lyrics, life experiences and creative process, filmed over two days in Paris. Rubin directs the series in his documentary directorial debut, while he and JAŸ-Z also serve as executive producers alongside Daniel Kaluuya. The project was produced by Tetragrammaton and HBO Documentary Films. Rather than presenting a straightforward chronological biography, each episode is structured around a selection of songs from JAŸ-Z’s career, with Rubin using them as jumping-off points for discussions about his childhood, songwriting and the experiences behind his lyrics. The first two chapters are available now on MUBI in the UK, with two new episodes arriving each week until the eight-part series concludes on October 9. Watch the official trailer below. The documentary arrives during a landmark year for JAŸ-Z, marking both the 30th anniversary of his 1996 debut album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ and the 25th anniversary of ‘The Blueprint’.
