Every Major AI Character And Actor In The MCU

Since its inception in 2008, the MCU has introduced a bigger collection of artificial intelligence-based characters than you may realize. Likewise, several are set to become even more significant before the end of 2026 thanks to Marvel Studios' upcoming VisionQuest series. Rather than just bringing back Paul Bettany's "White Vision" following the events of 2021's WandaVision, the first trailer for VisionQuest has confirmed that he'll be joined by several of the MCU's most recognizable AI characters/voices, albeit in brand-new human forms. As such, this will include all-new actors for several of Vision's fellow robotic minds. Keeping all that in mind, it feels worth taking a headcount of all the major AI characters in the MCU, especially those confirmed to be in VisionQuest and the new actors set to bring them to life in the upcoming Disney+ series. Ultron James Spader originally provided the voice and motion capture for Ultron in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, portraying Tony Stark's rogue artificial intelligence experiment generated by the Mind Stone, which evolved into a genocidal villain. Gaining sentience and a dark free will, Ultron attempted to eradicate humanity and the Avengers to achieve his primary directive: "peace in our time." 11 years later, Spader is returning as Ultron in the MCU's upcoming VisionQuest series, confirming several long-held theories that Vision never destroyed the last Ultron drone at the end of Age of Ultron but instead held him prisoner within his own memory cortex. Although VisionQuest's first trailer does show Ultron as his full classic robotic self, we'll also see him as a human avatar for the first time, continued to be played by Spader. Vision In Age of Ultron, J.A.R.V.I.S. evolved and became The Vision when Ultron's synthetic body was completed by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner (and a major charge of lightning from Thor). After becoming an Avenger and falling in love with Wanda Maximoff, Vision was ultimately killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. His body was then taken apart and rebuilt by SWORD in WandaVision. However, the new manifestation of Vision created by Wanda's powers in Westview gave SWORD's "White Vision" his memories back, motivating this new iteration of the synthezoid to leave the battle to process all the new data/feelings he'd been given. WandaVision was Vision's last appearance before his new MCU series releasing in October. Not only will we see "White Vision" grappling and seeking to connect with his past, but it's also been teased that Vision will be given the chance to meet with his son Tommy Maximoff, albeit a reincarnated version just like his twin brother Billy in Agatha All Along. J.A.R.V.I.S. J.A.R.V.I.S. was Tony Stark's original AI assistant (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System), handling everything from his Iron Man suits, drones, Stark Industries, and the day-to-day of Avengers Tower. J.A.R.V.I.S. was voiced by Paul Bettany before becoming Vision, making him one of the MCU's most important AI characters since its earliest days. That said, J.A.R.V.I.S. will be featured in VisionQuest played by James D'Arcy. This is because D'Arcy played the MCU's real-life Edwin Jarvis, who inspired Tony's AI, having served Howard Stark and aided Peggy Carter in her missions. Jarvis was first featured in the ABC series Agent Carter, and also made an appearance in Avengers: Endgame. F.R.I.D.A.Y. After Paul Bettany's transition and J.A.R.V.I.S. became part of The Vision, Tony Stark needed a new AI for his suit's system in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This led to the debut of F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Female Replacement Intelligent Digital Assistant Youth), a new AI assistant voiced by Kerry Condon, who was featured from Age of Ultron's ending all the way to Avengers: Endgame. However, it's been revealed that Orla Brady will play her human avatar in VisionQuest. DUM-E & U Credit: Empire Magazine DUM-E and U are Tony Stark's robotic hydraulic arms/workshop assistants who first appeared in 2008's Iron Man, created by a young Tony Stark when he was a teenager at MIT. Not only did they help build Tony's first suit, but DUM-E saved Tony's life when the arm grabbed the old arc reactor out of Stark's reach after Obadiah Stane removed and stole the new one. After they were repaired following the destruction of Tony's house in Iron Man 3, DUM-E and U helped Happy Hogan move out of Avengers Tower in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and DUM-E was featured in Happy's apartment in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While much less sophisticated than J.A.R.V.I.S., both DUM-E and U do have minimal AI systems, allowing them to respond and react to voice commands. As such, both robot characters will be in VisionQuest, with DUM-E's human avatar being played by Henry Lewis, and Jonathan Sayer playing U. E.D.I.T.H. E.D.I.T.H. ("Even Dead, I'm The Hero") is Tony Stark's advanced augmented-reality security and defense system accessed via a pair of glasses. After he died in Avengers: Endgame, it was revealed in Spider-Man: Far From Home that Tony Stark left E.D.I.T.H. to Peter Parker, giving Spider-Man access to satellites, drones, weapons, and all kinds of Stark Industries resources. Although Dawn Michelle King originally voiced E.D.I.T.H., VisionQuest will debut Emily Hampshire as the character's human avatar. Jocasta While Jocasta is one of the MCU's more obscure AI characters on this list, it seems she'll soon be quite important with the confirmation that her human avatar will be played by T'Nia Miler in VisionQuest. Although she was never utilized on-screen, Jocasta was briefly featured as one of the other AI assistants Tony could have picked in Avengers: Age of Ultron before he chose F.R.I.D.A.Y. In the comics, Jocasta was created by Ultron as a love interest, only for her to betray him and join the Avengers. As such, it will be interesting to see where her loyalties lie in VisionQuest. Karen Voiced by Jennifer Connelly (Paul Bettany's real-life wife), Karen was Spider-Man's first AI, embedded in the first suit Tony Stark made for him, as seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Originally calling her "Suit Lady", Peter eventually gave her the name Karen, providing him with all kinds of built-in upgrades and variations to his webs. However, Karen was presumably destroyed in Spider-Man: Far From Home along with Peter's original suit. E.V. Serving as one of the movie's coolest meta connections, E.V. is voiced by Naomi Watts, the iconic actress who played Tom Holland's mother in The Impossible (Holland's first big movie role).
