Sign in to your ScreenRant account As DC Comics' preeminent superhero team, it's no surprise that James Gunn's DC Universe is already well underway in forming its Justice League roster with several major casting announcements. Since there are multiple iterations and spinoffs of the Justice League, the number of DC characters who have been on the team over the years is rather staggering. But there are core characters who are almost always part of the main Justice League roster. The DCU has yet to officially introduce Gunn's version of the team, even if Superman laid the foundation for the group with the Justice Gang. Members of that long-running team will likely feed into the eventual true Justice League team, while other heroes are still being introduced before its formation. In select cases, these heroes have already made a proper debut in the DCU. Others have been officially cast but have yet to be featured in a DCU movie or show. Through it all, the bones of Gunn's Justice League team have started to form as founding members and long-standing participants from the comics join the franchise. Despite Hal Jordan's ties to the team in the comics, Kyle Chandler's character won't be on the team after Hal's death in Lanterns season 1, barring a revival. So, while that removes him from the equation, the DCU still has lots of Justice League-level heroes cast as plans for the team to assemble develop. 9 Superman (David Corenswet) There is almost never a Justice League team without Superman, and that will be the case once more when the DCU's version forms. He is the hero that Gunn's entire universe has been built around. This franchise-leading role will absolutely lead to him taking on a major role with the Justice League, especially since he already has team experience by working with the Justice Gang. David Corenswet's Kal-El was introduced in Superman, where he had to come to terms with the real reason his parents sent him to Earth and the consequences his actions have on the world. He's a bright light in the DCU, as evident by how he looked out for his cousin in Supergirl. His 2027 return in Man of Tomorrow will surely push him even closer to being at a point to lead the Justice League, if he doesn't already form the team in the film. 8 Supergirl (Milly Alcock) Supergirl is often fighting alongside the Justice League in the comics, and she's been put in a position to do the same in the DCU. After introducing Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El in Superman, the DCU used Supergirl to show her journey to find her place and stop isolating herself after a tragic past. Supergirl's ending leaves Kara on Earth and ready to help protect the planet, putting her one step closer to joining the Justice League. She's already tagged along to help Justice Gang in the past, even if they didn't really aid Peacemaker at the end of the day. With Supergirl returning in Man of Tomorrow and strengthening her relationship with Superman, she'll be well-positioned to be on DC's super team. 7 John Stewart/Green Lantern (Aaron Pierre) Hal Jordan may be the Justice League's more common Green Lantern member, but John Stewart is synonymous with the team for many thanks to the 2000s animated shows Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. That appears to be the direction the DCU is heading after Hal's death in Lanterns, with the eight-episode HBO Max series serving the primary purpose of establishing Aaron Pierre's John as the DCU's main Green Lantern. He is set to return in Man of Tomorrow, which will allow John to cross paths with Superman and other major DCU heroes. That exposure will give him an inside track to expanding how he wants to protect Earth, as he can stop doing things solo to be part of the world's greatest team. 6 Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) Hawkgirl has years of experience on the Justice League in the comics, with Justice League and Justice League Unlimited bolstering her position with the team. The DCU wasted no time introducing Kendra Shiera Saunders, with Isabela Merced playing her in Superman as a member of the Justice Gang. She even returned for a brief role in Peacemaker season 2. Hawkgirl is slated to return in Man of Tomorrow, expanding her heroism to whatever threat Brainiac poses to humanity. Since she's already used to working in a team dynamic as part of the Justice Gang and has an underrated powerset, she should get some time with the Justice League whenever the team does come together. 5 Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) Mister Terrific has been part of many teams in the comics, with his time with the Justice Society of America, Checkmate, and Terrifics most notable. But he is also frequently aligned with the Justice League, even taking on a major leadership role at times. As one of the most brilliant minds in DC Comics, he is an incredibly resourceful member of any team he's part of. The DCU brought Mister Terrific in quickly with Edi Gathegi portraying him in Superman. He's already established as a trusted ally for Superman and part of the Justice Gang. When it comes time for the group to evolve and an official Justice League roster to form, he should be a member. Man of Tomorrow will likely bring him one step closer to such a role. 4 Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) Just because John Stewart will be part of the DCU's Justice League team doesn't mean there won't be another Green Lantern. Guy Gardner has commonly fought alongside the team in the comics, even if his time as a founding member of the Justice League International is a bigger part of his story. The DCU has made Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner a key recurring character, having roles in Superman, Peacemaker season 2, and Lanterns, plus a forthcoming appearance in Man of Tomorrow. As a member of the Justice Gang and a fairly powerful hero, he should at the very least be in consideration for a Justice League roster spot when the time comes. 3 Mister Miracle (Josh Hutcherson) Mister Miracle has yet to make his DCU debut, but he is part of the future plans and already cast. DC is developing a Mister Miracle animated show for HBO Max that will be part of the cinematic franchise. Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) is confirmed to have been cast as the voice of Scott Free, which will lead to him suiting up as the New God in any future live-action appearances. Mister Miracle's DCU future may primarily rest with the New Gods, but he has been part of the Justice League and Justice League International in the comics. Whether right away or down the line, it will not be a surprise to see Scott join the ranks, especially when it comes time for the Justice League to face off with his adopted father, Darkseid. 2 Big Barda (Mackenzie Davis) Big Barda is also coming to the DCU and already has an actress attached to the role. Mister Miracle's cast also includes Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate, Station Eleven) as Big Barda, the New God warrior and love interest of Scott. Since we've yet to meet Big Barda, it is difficult to tell exactly what her DCU future holds. Assuming the animated show adapts Tom King's acclaimed comic series, she could be busy fighting the New Genesis and Apokolips' war for a while. But it does seem inevitable that Big Barda will join the Justice League in the DCU at some point. 1 Wonder Woman? (Adria Arjona?) The previous eight DCU heroes have actors officially confirmed to be playing them, but that's not exactly (or possibly even remotely) true for Wonder Woman. It is impossible to fathom Gunn's franchise forming the Justice League without Diana Prince as a founding member. So far, Wonder Woman has yet to appear in the DCU, but speculation and rumors continue to swirl that the role is cast with Adria Arjona becoming the Amazonian warrior. Arjona is officially part of Man of Tomorrow's cast, but her character's identity has not been formally announced. Some reports say she will play Maxima. However, Arjona and Gunn have refused to confirm this, putting a lot of secrecy around the casting of a comic character most people have never heard of. That's fueled theories that Arjona is playing Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow and beyond. If so, then the future Justice League hero has indeed already been cast.
