The end of Dawn Taylor (Picture: ITV) The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated August 30. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube. Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) has died in hospital in Emmerdale, and I’m actually as heartbroken as Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) to be honest. I never thought I’d ever feel sorry for Joe – but here we are. The character endured a hellish week. First, Caleb Miligan (William Ash) destroyed his world by revealing that Dawn had run off with Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle), then he was knocked unconscious as a result of Jimmy King (Nick Miles) crashing his car into the marquee, then it looked like he was going to die after the tent exploded. Joe survived the blast, amazingly, and was rushed to hospital. There, his focus quickly turned to Dawn after learning that she had gone into early labour. Dawn gave birth to a little boy. In hospital, after clearing the air with Joe, Kim Tate (Claire King) and Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), Dawn believed that her fresh start was finally beginning. It’s difficult when you know a character is leaving, isn’t it? You can’t fully appreciate the happy moments they experience, because you know the joy is probably going to get ripped away. Sadly, that’s exactly what happened. Everything was lovely…which meant something was going to go wrong. Joe left the room to get Dawn some water. While he was gone, he actually collapsed. He woke up seconds later, and failed to tell a passing member of staff what had happened. Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. When Joe returned to Dawn’s room, he believed that she had fallen asleep. Seconds later, it was established that something was very, very wrong. Doctors and nurses rushed in, but a heartbroken Joe was told that Dawn had died. Dawn’s death left her loved ones completely beside themselves. Billy had arrived at the hospital to see Dawn, but Graham told him that she had died. Billy headed to Mill Cottage, broken and angry that Caleb and Ruby Miligan’s (Beth Cordingly) plan had ended this way. Jimmy died earlier this week (Picture: ITV) The greatest heartbreak in this story was that Joe and Dawn’s future together had been taken away. Joe had wanted a family life with Dawn, believing they could put everything behind them and build something together. In the space of one devastating moment, that future vanished. As the episode drew to a close, we were given a glimpse of what could have been. A dream sequence saw Dawn and Joe dressed in their wedding outfits, offering a vision of the life they never got to have. The scene also echoed a moment shared by Jimmy and Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) earlier in the week, creating a poignant link between two couples whose futures were cruelly taken away from them.
