Emirates will give you a bonus mile for every minute you spend in Dubai, up to 7,200 miles. That’s five days of earning while you eat, sleep, or sit by the pool. They’ve actually done this before, when Dubai tourism was less challenging, and awarding miles for sitting around is actually not at all new. Here are the offer details and registration: Register and book October 21 – November 5, 2026, and complete travel by December 13. Take an eligible Emirates or flydubai roundtrip originating outside the United Arab Emirates. You must live outside the country, and your ticket must earn Skywards miles. Award tickets don’t qualify. Stay in Dubai for at least 24 hours and no more than 30 days, either as your destination or a stopover. Earn 1,440 bonus miles per day, capped at 7,200 miles. Only your first eligible stay counts. The calculation uses scheduled arrival and departure times, with miles credited within 30 days after your stay. This doesn’t stack with other mileage promotions, you earn whichever one is greater. This is an incentive to spend money in Dubai instead of just changing planes there. I wouldn’t buy another hotel night to earn 1,440 Skywards miles. And I wouldn’t head to the region right now for the miles – I’d be surprised if your risk tolerance is that sensitive to Skywards miles, you’re either willing to visit or not. Emirates actually announced the same promotion in August 2021, for visits October 1, 2021 – March 31, 2022 during Expo 2020 and the country’s fiftieth anniversary. Back then the cap was 5,000 miles. Thai Airways also awarded miles based on time, although they wanted people to stay home. In April 2020, they ran a promotion for staying within 328 feet of home. An app tracked participants’ locations, and they earned one mile for every four hours indoors. That’s six miles a day. And back in September 2004, I published a collection of signs you think about miles too much. One was: …you hear the words “mile a minute” and find yourself pondering the concept of earning bonus miles as a function of time. It turns out that would become real.
