One of the vehicle's passengers was also injured, and three people have been detained in connection with the case.Police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the driver and are investigating whether the occupants of the SUV were under the influence of alcohol. Officers are also checking whether other cars were involved and if the vehicles were racing or speeding.The incident took place around 5:30 am in the Civil Lines area, less than a kilometre from the Chief Minister's official residence, officials said. According to eyewitnesses, three cars were speeding in the area when one of them hit the victim.Police identified the victim as Kailash Sondia, a resident of Awasthi Chowk. Preliminary information showed that the SUV had three occupants when it hit him while he was out on his morning walk. He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to a government hospital, where doctors declared him dead, an official said. The police have detained the SUV driver, identified as Tushar Kakde, along with Yash Shinde and Himanshu Raut.Gittikhadan police station inspector Saran Mirashi told PTI that a probe was under way to find out whether there were more people in the SUV and whether the occupants had consumed liquor.
